Thanks for this short video, I bought the gen2 dock yesterday and it works fine with my X1G6 running Mint (which has the best hidpi support out of the box in my opinion). No more cables hanging everywhere.
(If KDE gets its hidpi support on par, I’ll switch back to Arch)

bought the Gen2. The "wierd" usb C port is the one used for the Lenovo mechanical docks if that makes a difference.

Thanks for the refresher as I have all these docks laying around and I can't remember which one is which!

Regarding the LAN Issue you reported, its not a workaround, thats the correct port for docking station on that unit, something special about that funky second USB C port designed for multi streaming all the dock features. Thats why the big daddy Ultra docks with the Trays use that port when you seat them

I was literally thinking about this, I have an older ThinkPad that I'd like to use too but I don't like those huge docks

Hey Kai. How is the Gen2 dock been treating you on the t14s.

I recently upgraded to the t14s and my dock seems to be dropping ethernet connection intermittently.

Also, how are you updating the firmware on the machine. Hoping to try the new trackpoint firmware to fix the trackpoint drift.

I have Gen 2 but my hp pavilion can't see my 2 hp EliteDisplay E242 24" LCD Monitor 1920 x 1200..
The light on the doc is light up white.
It was light yellow before.

Thanks for the comparison. I have gen1 and was wondering if it made sense to upgrade.

Also - is it Ok to use gen1 with MacBook Air 2020?

I stopped using the dock both gen 1 and 2 on my think pad X1 I found the throughput on the gig Ethernet was sub optimal but it was mainly the display link was tricky and consuming a lot of CPU. I have 2 external display plus the laptop screen. Now I just plug in everything directly.

The first gen work on t430 using converter usb a?

i guess the gen2 uses USB Ethernet while gen1 replicates the port of the Ethernet.

Does the gen 1 power button mirror the machine's power button though

Does any of these 2 docks use displaylink to display to a monitor?

Hey Kai,
How well the Gen 2 dock work with T480s Arch? I am planning to get one but can't decide.

Thanks.

I've got the mini version and i'm facing a strange issue with builtin ethernet and systemd networkd that creates a DHCP loop when i reattach the usb c cable. Any help would be appreciated

Is the Gen 2 HDCP compliant? I am not able to find that information and many have reported it is not and are having video playback issues. Thanks

Hey so I have the Thinkpad Gen2 USB Type-C Dock and trying to hook up two 27" monitors.

One is a LG 4K UHD 27UD88-W at 60hz and the other is LG 27GL83A-B 27 Inch Ultragear QHD at 144hz.

I have a Displayport 1.4 cable going to the 4k LG and HDMI 2.0 cable going to the 1440p LG.

When I boot into Windows10 everything works flawlessly, 144hz on 1440p monitor and 60hz on 4k.

For some reason the dock is giving me issues in Arch Linux tho (i3wm). Using arandr to enable the monitors works but it will not let me have both monitors on at the same time as well as never letting me have 4k resolution on the 4k monitor (highest it let's me do on 4k monitor is 1440p res).

This is the message that arandr and xrandr send me after trying to turn on both monitors or set the proper 4k resolution on the 4k monitor:

XrandR failed:

XRandR returned error code 1: b'xrandr: Configure crtc 1 failed\n'

I have tried sending xrandr manual commands as well but all xrandr sends back to me is "xrandr: Configre crtc 1 failed"

Thunderbolt is an intel spec and not supported on AMD officially .

I know you said thunderbolt because they're almost interchangeable, but these are all usb-c docks and computers. I try to avoid thunderbolt for business users unless they're using a mac or require a computer with more power or throughput than can be delivered through usb-c.
