Gohan was useful in the Buu Saga. People just don't get that Z's formula wasn't to overload it's villain side with shit ton of enemies to fight, aside Frieza since he was an emperor, but to make the villains actually overwhelming. The thing is gets dumb if you have 5+ overwhelming threats and no one is dying verus one threat that everyone is trying to kill. That's why Frieza, Cell, and Buu are such awesome villains because they were literally fighting for thier lives with the deck getting stacked against. It's awesome to watch Buu adapt and evolve in reponse to each situation as multiple heroes step up to him.

Gotham has been training a hell of a lot inbetween the resurrection ‘f’ saga and super hero. Not to mention it is an evolution of ultimate Gohan something that was setup in both the anime and the manga as something that Gohan was working towards. Whichever way you slice it he did put in the work. If we are talking about ass pulls piccolo literally made a wish to get his power boost.

It would have made more sense for this to be a super Saiyan transformation calling it ultimate super saiyan or super saiyan ultimate. A gohan training arc built around him mastering his potential and ultimate form to unlock this transformation would have made more sense but seeing as gohan gets his power ups through his heightened emotions I can see why this route was taken. It’s lazy writing and just an excuse to not give gohan the love he deserves.
