Patient information

Generalised Anxiety Disorder

COVID – 19, Sunday 17th May

COVID-19 virus is not only attacking physical health

Psychological suffering.

Grief at the loss of loved ones…

Shock at the loss of jobs…

Isolation and restrictions on movement…

Difficult family dynamics, domestic violence is rising

Uncertainty and fear for the future…

Domestic violence is rising, and health workers are reporting an increased
need for psychological support.

Panic, anxiety, grief, numbness, irritability, insomnia and nightmares.

My spirit is broken,
my days are cut short,
the grave awaits me.

The human spirit can endure in sickness,
but a crushed spirit who can bear?

A mental illness crisis is looming as millions of people worldwide are surrounded by death and disease and forced into isolation, poverty and anxiety by the pandemic

Mental health problems, including depression and anxiety, are some of the greatest causes of misery in our world.

Even when the pandemic is brought under control, grief, anxiety and depression will continue to affect people and communities.

“The mental health and wellbeing of whole societies have been severely impacted by this crisis and are a priority to be addressed urgently,”

The United Nations is strongly committed to creating a world in which everyone, everywhere, has someone to turn to for psychological support.

I am so impressed how Dr John has normalized depression and personalized it for his audience. He makes it less stigmatized and less threatening. Another good deed for humanity from the good doctor...I am ever more impressed by this fellow traveler...I hope he knows how much he has touched his audience...

Someone once said. Anxiety is when you care too much about everything & Depression is when you don't really care about anything. Having both is just like hell !

We love you John! Humans are fragile. This is not a movie. This is life. We are all suffering. Our children are suffering. Missing joy and social bonding...Thank you for your unique perspective. Stay strong. You make a difference...

So true about the vicious cycle. Less sleep, makes you tired, sometimes I have been too tired to sleep. Wild.

I've noticed over the months now it makes me feel better just listening to Dr. Campbell. His tone, maturity, calmness, pace, genuineness, commonsense, gentle humor, good manners, admits to his mistakes and he just looks and acts like the grandfather, father, uncle or brother we all should have in our lives.

Thank You, Dr. Campbell for helping to remove the stigmatism that is associated with mental health disorders. We have all gone through depression or anxiety to some degree and should be able to talk about it without feeling shame. God Bless You and I Thank You for all that you do for us! ❤️🙏

Thank you so much Sir JC 🙏
Especially for speaking about alcoholism being a disease - as it is.
I had a horrid time with alcoholism it but am very proud to say I am now 5+ years sober with the help of AA.
Looking back - my life did not start until I got sober!
God bless you for the tireless and amazing job you are doing - I pray you get a Knighthood.
Much love from Perth xx

This worked for me. Learn to recognise when you may be getting negative thoughts, such as catastrophising. For example, you may be fixed into thinking the worst case scenario IS going to happen, and you can’t get your mind off it, so it makes you anxious. First learn to recognise if and when you are thinking it, then, start to test and question, in reality, what are the chances of that worst case scenario actually happening, really? Chances are that the possibility of it ACTUALLY happening, if you are honest, is very slim. Therefore, learn to question and test the REAL likelihood of those negative thought scenarios actually happening. I have found this method really helped me put my fears into perspective. Hope this helps someone.

I lost a brother to depression as we were losing our mother to alzheimers. It is hard to accept. He would tell me to take off my rose colored glasses. I said I needed them to cope. Thanks John

Thank you again for making these videos on mental health.
One of the things that has greatly helped me during this pandemic experience has been watching your videos. I was feeling quite overwhelmed by the news but felt i needed to keep up to date with the situation. Your videos have helped me to keep up to date with relevant fact based information, in a calm and informative way, without some of the fear inducing content of the news media.
Thank you so much for all the time, effort and care you put into your content. Very much appreciated 😊

Thank you for all of your videos, I've watched every video about Covid-19 some more than once. I've even gone back and watched about Hypertension as this is 1 of my health issues, today's videos are so important for me as a sufferer of Mental health issues for over 25 years. I'm self shielding for the minimum 12 weeks due to multiple health problems, and am having a daily battle in my head, I have tried on many occasions to keep a mood diary without success, but feel I can keep a diary off the PHQ 9 and GAD scores far easier. You have been a great source of information during these challenging times John and I am just 1 of thousands that you have helped, thank you again, stay safe and well 👍.

Sometimes those who smile carry the most pain, this is true, I have the smiling depression that you spoke of, as for anxiety I absolutely hate it, I deal with this everyday. I consider myself with high function anxiety
Thank you for this video today, you are absolutely appreciated

The beginning of this video is so important. It's been heart wrenching to see my husband lose all hope through depression. Ive realized I need to make the calls for him. He simply cannot.

This was, obviously, as I'm sure you knew going in, one of the most helpful and useful videos you could have done. Because of the work I do, I'm very familiar with both of those scales and have many times been comforted just to know these issues are so common, scales have been created. I know a few people who would benefit greatly from keeping a daily dairy of their scores. That is a particularly brilliant idea. Thank you so much for doing this. You truly are a great and giving human being.
