The book was really good about this because he was, always trained to fight people in shield all his movements where too slow and was easily defended

(spoilers) i like the detail in the second movie where during Paul's ultimate duel with feyd-ratha he still does duncan's salute, but uses jamis' stance and says the line "may your blade chip and shatter"
