The base model Macs should START with 512 GB SSD and 16 GB RAM it is ridiculous to pay 400$+ for upgrading from 256 SSD and 8 GB RAM

For me, it was the ridiculously tiny SSDs that haven’t increased in size for more than 10 years.

The first MAC I bought lasted three years. I bought two more and had the same problem with both. After about 6 months they quit working. I had a warranty and took them to the apple store. When they opened them up, they were rusted inside. I was accused of spilling something on the keyboard, not so. They said my warranty didn't cover the problem. For what I paid for them, I should have been given a new laptop. I will never buy another Apple laptop of any kind.

Price hikes in markets outside the US are probably a factor as well. The M2 MacBook Pro 14 inch starts at £2149 in the UK now, which is $2670. The M1 Pro was £1899 if I remember correctly.

Bought a 16” MBP M1 in Aug 2022. Doing lots of 4K vid editing, triple screen, etc. It’s soooo overkill and I love it. Can’t imagine upgrading for 4-5 years. My last MBP was 6 years old.

Channels like this hyped up the first run of the M1 chips so much that every Apple fan blew their budgets to be included. With the little improvements in the M2 Line up, it's hard to replicate that excitement. The best option is to buy used or wait until M3 sets a new standard for the industry. Either way, we live in an era where almost every computer can get the job done.

I feel that Apple realized that they provided too good of product with the M1 line and the iPhone 13 line that they were future proofed longer than normal. The M1 and A15 chips are beasts. This is a bell that cannot be unrung unless Apple chooses to throttle.

I'd say a combination of things:
-Price increases (mostly outside the US macs have increased massively in price)
-Rising inflation rates last year, these consequences are only felt in peopl's pockets after a couple of months so now demand is falling
-People have upgraded their computers during the pandemic

With inflation, layoffs, etc. people have less money to spend and unless they need a new mac they can wait.

I have the MacBook Pro 16 M1 Max 1TB SSD with 32Gig ram I have no plans to upgrade anytime soon it is so good it handles all of my Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign and 3D CAD Fusion 360 with ease.

I'm out of step with the upgrade cycle madness. I think getting a replacement machine every ten years should be early enough.

I think a major reason not to upgrade is the inability to upgrade the hardware later. I bought a used 2020 MacBook Air intel chip set two weeks ago because of this. The cost of hard wired in is just too much for a student like myself can afford for a new one presently.

I still have the M1 Macbook Air and still performs like new. Never had any issues with it and I think I'm keeping it for more years to come. Easily one of the best Macs I've ever had.

I’m ignoring his advice and buying the new M2 Max MacBook Pro 16 inch. 😅 This guy forgets that not everyone bought an M1 Mac couple years ago and are still operating on the old Intel chip machines that are 5-8 years old that operated well until the end. The M2 gives me a 2.0 version of the M1 chip and puts me in the apple chip era and I have no doubt the new M2 machine will be the workhorse that helps me get through tough times for the next 5-8 years or more. I’m sure the M3 will be great when it comes out in the fall but that’s a lot of time between now and then. Besides the state of the economy, supply chain crisis, and looming threat of war tells me the story could be different one day down the road too.

I very satisfied with my 2023 M2 Max MacBook Pro 16”. I upgraded from my 2009 MacBook Pro 13”, so it was much needed. Most likely won’t upgrade for a while.

I find the prices have gone up massively. Here in Canada the 13" M2 Air is $1449 and the new 15" Air starts at $1749.00. Either way you still only have 8GB ram. Cannot justify the cost.

Max tech exposed Apple M2 for having slower SSD so that’s why sale numbers are down

My 1.27kg 16" LG gram allows me to put 2 NVMe SSDs. Macbook defaults and upgrades are just crazy.

I recently bought a MacBook Air M2 as my old MacBook Pro 2016 couldn’t cope with many apps and was far too slow. In other words there is no point to switch from M1 to M2, unless you lack the memory or are really switching the use of the Mac, thus are in need for more resources.
So in my case I switched after 6 years and expect the cycle will not change.
