What do I spend my money on in Texas? This is a breakdown of ALL of my expenses, including house, car, utilities, food, and all else in between. Full transparency--all of my expenses before savings and contributions comes out to $3,300 a month! I work in technology consulting, and thankfully my job offsets some of my food, travel, and transportation expenses.

I live near downtown Austin in a paid up duplex in a desirable neighborhood. My expenses is less than 35K, but my retirement income is only 45K. I have no debts and live alone. Your utilities is less than mine and that is without a swimming pool. Medical insurance and property tax is 14K.

Do you escrow for property taxes and homeowners insurance? How much is your federal income tax? Those are expenses you have to account for and can be significant amounts over and above employer withholding if you have self employment income (eg your rental properties).

I don't live far from you.. I can't believe your electric is that low for that size house. Mine about $166/month. Water bill $80/month not running sprinklers. Grocery bill ....mine 4 times higher (just me) I'm gonna reevaluate my budget

I feel that it's better to earn around $100K in a place where that affords you the lifestyle it should than to earn $300K in a place where a trashed 1200sqft. house is 2 million dollars and you're regulated and taxed to death.
