The Raspberry Pi Foundation might have struck gold with this one! The brand new Pi 400 is quite possibly the coolest and cutest little Linux PC of 2020. (Let's be honest, the coolest device of 2020 PERIOD!) And unlike this holiday's other hot hardware, you might even be able to buy one!

The Linux market needs affordable consumer products, ready to just use as a regular PC for non-programmers. Hopefully this kind of thing is just the beginning.

This really is the start of a new era. And yes, I'll be getting one.

I have several Pis in use for service applications like a VPN entry gateway at my parents place, a Kodi media center, a touch-screen based controller for my smarthome etc. I will never miss the versatility of those devices. Yet, one major thing which always annoyed me is the pure reliance on an SD card. These things like to break under heavy duty, if chosen poorly, like in a Pi with a lot of writes due to logging, database access etc (basically anything more complex). It took me some time to find proper SD cards with a dedicated controller, which uses wear-leveling for endurance (2 years back I have chosen a "SanDisk Extreme Pro" and it still lives - On contrast to a "random Kingston" SD, which died after 6 months). For the Pi 400, I would have wished for a dedicated eMMC on the board just for the OS or maybe a SATA port... Yet, still only SD cards are supported out-of-the-box. Using this as a daily desktop-driver is - well - risky. I would at least attach a dedicated drive via USB for the home folder.

Asked about raspberrypi content and you delivered. This Channel rocks.

Swapping the 4gb model for the 8gb model would be a nice option here.

After the PCs in-a-screen, we are back to amiga and commodore, the computers of our childhood ! I would even find it more funny with a real high quality old school keyboard. There must be enough room to scram the hardware this into an old IBM keyboard and its weight wont change much !

This sounds like an ideal streaming device, to plug into your TV, while also doing some light browsing!

If i ever upgrade my Pi3b to a 4 this is going to be it. I run retropie on them byt every now and then i get stuck in a situation that requires a keyboard. This would allow me to more easily navigate the keyboard commands in for example a C64 emulator or a wifi config utility without first having to hook up a keyboard from another pc. Would have been nice if they included a trackpoint though for basic mouse support for a truly portable device.

The only concern i have is how hot this gets. So a good test would be getting a copy of something like supreme pro (the legal 64-bit base image) for the Pi4 and play some more intensive games.

This thing is so cute!
I wish they offered more colors

If they made some kind a latch, a detachable monitor, and a slice battery (available seperately at least), BOOM.

I wasn't able to see the purpose of this device at first glance, but now I see that this is a device for another market entirely

I just love the Raspberry Pi Foundation! This new device they have just released is simply the coolest device they have released. I just watched another youtube creator's tear down video of his Pi 400 and a separate review video. This device has a huge heatsink that spans right across the keyboard, and he actually got a stable overclock to 2.2 GHz . Temps were low to mid 60C at full tilt, and never throttled down either! Really Now you do have to add the proper code to the config.txt file to OC like usual but be warned that the code you use will void your warranty. Your excitement in this video has gotten my attention and now I am excited to see your next video once you get your new toy and get to play with it!!!! Any idea when you should be getting your new Pi 400?

They don't have retailer here, but found a shop in Netherlands that will ship it here :D Ordered! Can't wait for it now, my first Pi and I'm thrilled at how it looks. I took the whole kit of course :P

Already pre ordered one... And I will transform it into an Amiga (whdload) ;)
Or a retrogaming machine, or I might even work on it. This is an amazing concept. Love everything about it.

I use the RPI 4 with 4 gig RAM as office PC for browsing, printing, music, plotting and write scripts for university with dual screen and have a more than OK usability for that purpose. And of course some tinkering (where it's kind of fantastic) but it looks a little messy on the desktop beside the keyboard so this is a neat elegant solution at least at the first look. It is amazing what this little thing is able to do for the money it cost. It's a pleasure to see how this hole stuff around the RPI and the RPI it self has developed over time.

I'm so glade you gave tribute to the AMIGA 500 and made the comparison. Well deserved...! I'm sure the Raspberry Pi 500 is only just around the corner, early 2022 :)
