What is Aphasia? It’s a speech and language disturbance that occurs following a brain injury like a stroke or traumatic accident. Studies show that approximately 80,000 individuals experience these types of side effects after a stroke each year and about one million people in the U.S. currently have aphasia. June is National Aphasia Awareness Month and Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific is raising awareness about this debilitating impairment. The doctors, nurses and therapists work diligently everyday helping these types of patients learn to speak, write and read again.
