Regaining hand movement after brain damage

Raising the arm can be difficult to relearn after damage to the brain or the spinal cord. However, most people do not want to start there. Most people would prefer to start with the hand in an effort to get back to doing all the necessary skills (activities of daily living) without assistance.

In this video I will explain the best way to regain arm and hand movement

I'm 4 years post stroke. Left side affected. Fingers are just starting to open. I use a resting splint at night to keep the wrist in a neutral position and fingers open. Weekly hand therapy, botox and mental imagery. I'm now using a home robotics program endorsed by my neurologist as hopefully the last tool to get my hand to function again. Never give up and work hard. Great video.😊

Jan 2016 hubby CVA right side affected. Just 2 months ago we found a Neuro Physio after watching your fab videos.
Always had good shoulder condition but no arm hand function. Now he can move and rotate his wrist. We'll add your exercises to improve shoulder strength. He's wearing a dictus Splint now and this has improved his walk and stature, and reduced fatigue. It's so important to have the professionalism and your videos encouraged us to achieve this. Thank You from Ireland. Of course, we'll keep watching and learning..

Thank you so much for this video. In all the years I've gone to therapy for my stroke. Never had this told to me, they just put a heat pad on, and stretch arm then send me home.

Again, as a foreign educated are the interpreter of thick but concise and confusing PT textbooks written in the therapists/scholar language. Thank you for showing me the true meanings and the clinical applications underneath the each lines in the book that I couldn’t fully understand from just reading.

So helpful. My daughter has right lobe diffused axonal brain injury from a truck hitting her car Oct 2, 2023.
She is minimally conscious at the moment. This video helped me understand the order of regaining usage. Thank you.

I see that it is very important to keep the thumb and hand open which requires different exercises to make it easier to straighten the forearm. You explained it very well and emphasized that you are a gift from God, I really consider myself lucky to be helped by a top physiotherapist. There is justice that not only rich celebrities have that privilege. Thank God you exist, and and work for you.

Could not agree more about the thumb abduction on a hand splint. When I bought a splint that placed my thumb out, it helped relieve spacticity in my thumb and fingers tremendously. It was like taking a huge leap forward in my recovery when I started wearing my splint a few hours a day.

I had a massive stroke in 2003 33yo. I gave up on my left hand and arm, I'm functional with few limitations. I tried PT OT for 6 years to 0avail. Botox electric stimulation. my family isn't strong enough to stretch my finger. I can't afford splints or therapy anymore stroke caused epilepsy so I can't drive I walk with limp but I walk
I wore splints and AFO for 2 years I broke 2 hand splints from my spasticity. I am going to die this way one day. I gave up from being normal. now I am having internal problems from muscle weakness. certain organs don't work! thank you
