I bought a 2007 new Toyota fought me on oil burning I got fed up and traded it wish I got in on the rebuild offer. I even bought extended warranty when it was new. At 90k miles it used 3 qts in 3, 000 miles religious maintenance and factory filters. I wish I had some recourse.ive had 4 cyl older Camry with 300k miles with minimal oil usage..

I think that the 2.4L was also available in the 2009 Pontiac Vibe. Yes, burns oil.

The problem is the piston rings not the piston. They use a two price oil ring instead of a three piston. Rebuild it with a jdm ring fit or good after market set the piston itself is fine.

Toyota finally took note of the problem in 2011, and a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) was issued to acknowledge the oil consumption concerns in the following vehicles equipped with the affected 4-cylinder 2AZ-FE engine: 2007 – 2011 Toyota Camry. 2007 – 2011 Toyota Camry Hybrid. 2009 Toyota Matrix.

I had the 2007 Camry 2.4 hybrid with this motor and never had an issues over the 11 years I had it.

More precisely, it is the engine you need to avoid, it is found in more Toyotas than just the 2007s.

Howdyyall from the land down under. In OZ we have a product called Murray, s. It helps to stabilise the oil so it don't burn so much. It also sticks to all moving parts to help reduce wear. Especially on startup & shut down. Keeping it real 😊

My dad has 2011 Rav4. And it has 2.4L 4 cylinder. Also burns oil

I had 2010 matrix with this engine and loved it never had a single drop of oil burn and had 350k miles before the torque converter went out

This issue affected all 2AZ-FE engines from about 2009 to 2014, in the Camry, RAV4, Corolla XRS, and possibly others. There was a campaign to replace the pistons for free, but it was only extended to those who experienced severe oil burning at the time, which was a small amount of them. So you could either ask to see proof that this fix was applied, or you could stick to only ones with low mileage and then change your oil every 5k mi instead of the recommended 10k.

I have a 2008 Camry LE 2AZ-FE. I've flushed in engine a couple of times, and been diligent with oil changes @ 3-4K. With 180K on the clock, it burns about 1 qt per 3K. Keep the oil control rings clean (because they are too small) and damage will be mitigated. Infrequent oil changes will kill this engine.

Mine got the campaign done back in 2017. It has not burned a single drop of oil since then.

Funny that same 2.4 liter is found in the highlander now with a turbo added to make it blow up that much sooner then later

My dad has one of these with 334k miles on it and drives it everday. It burns oil but other than that, it's been a fantastic car

This man speaks truth. I have two 2007 Camrys and he is precisely accurate. I just keep putting oil in them one has 170, 000 mi the other has 160 miles. I will be driving them until they disintegrate until the elements or the motor blows
