Should You Do Special Event Streams?

I used to do 1 event stream a month, pain week, painting streams, Christmas events, amazon buying streams, and so many other events, but a month or so ago I did a charity event and the community raised $13,856USD which is amazing but I was so drained after the charity event and how stressful it was that I took a break from big events.

The absence has been really noticeable, event streams bring a lot of excitement, a lot of community building happens during special events, and they also start a lot of community memes, a side product is also a lot of revenue from event streams but that shouldn’t be your focus.

How To Pick The BEST Games For Your Stream

I realized was causing a lot of issues was that I have been so focused on growing my stream that it has actually hurt my growth.

After gaining 900 plus followers during the trending period of Valheim, I became so focused on looking for the hot new game that will get me exposure, or only looking to play games that I know are good for growth and, sure they are enjoyable but these aren’t always the best for nurturing your community, that core who enjoys your content.

I’ve been incredibly nervous to try new things like new smaller Indie games, or older games that aren’t good for exposure, and that is where the big problem starts. Those games are so much fun to play with your community and help make amazing community memes.

When I played Detroit Become Human, I got almost no followers from the category but the number of in-jokes, memes, and fun moments that came from those streamers was insane, like the fact that chat now thinks I can’t pull off quick time events to save my life, or that I hate bus stops….

The style of this video is similar to Alpha Gaming and Gaming Careers in parts. A large influence on this series has come from content creators like Wild4games and Nutty.

This video actually made me cry at the end, it might sound silly but I struggle with so much anxiety and just hearing the reassurance of "You got this" did so much for me today; thanks a lot for this video in particular and the many others I have watched and that have helped me. <3

Me and my streaming partner have gone through a lot of changes since we've started and there will be more until we both get full time jobs, but these videos make me feel like we are always headed towards the right direction.

I'm coming up on my 1 year stream anniversary and I'm almost to affiliate and your content has been a HUGE help with this! Thank you for sharing your experiences!

Wow that last tip really hit home. I get supported by great loving people pushing me, saying I have potential, but no matter what that little voice in my head is there saying "you're kidding yourself". At the end of the day, I wouldn't have gotten my first 10 followers, I wouldn't have edited my first video, and I definitely wouldn't have gotten my first donation if I didn't at least try. It's surreal how much I enjoy content creation, but also how stressful it can become. Thanks mate, your videos are great at reminding me that it's all part of the journey, and that it wouldn't be worth it if it was easy. Much love 🤜🏼🤛🏼💙💚

It took me so long to realize that my audio quality in streams was one of the most important parts. Getting a nice mic and setting it up with some good filters is key! And it also helps for voiceovers in my video essays too.

Wow, how did you know I had a bad week and I needed to hear that last tip? :D

Mistake I made: focus too much on what is good content and getting so anxious that I would not make content at all. I just kept watching videos about how to create it, but not spend time actually creating it. How to deal with it: try to realise it's okay to make something that isn't perfect or even good, you need to take action to learn, in Dutch we have a saying "niet geschoten is altijd mis" which translates to ïf you don't shoot, you'll always miss" (nothing ventured, nothing gained).

WOW! These were some really great tips! I've noticed myself making these exact mistakes recently. No special events, little to no collaborating, no community streams. Too focus on getting through the same game. Gotta switch it up and start doing these things again!

I will be honest and say that today when watching this video I was feeling very down on myself, thinking I am not good enough, I am not growing enough or fast enough. That I do not make good content and that I am probably not fun to watch. But, this video did help, and I am going to be writing post-it notes now because I love that idea. It hit me close to home when you said you get anxious, because I have lots of anxiety and throughout my streams, I stop and worry that I am not being captivating enough. I need more confidence in my streaming capability and when you said to look at how far you have come, it hit me just how far I have come since I started 5 months ago. So thank you for this video today.

WOW! 💖 Thank you for another wonderful video! I always go to your videos for a refresher and even check out the new videos as soon as I am!

In the VTuber side of streaming, alot of people tend to make this mistake and yes, the words you say are true. Follow for follow, Good content is second, wallowing in failures. This caused alot of people to quit or get stuck into a constant "rebranding" but to those that perservere, they are able to grow and strive! 💖

WOW!
Thank you so much for the tips and encouragement! I've been watching your videos for a while trying to get myself ready for when I can start to stream. I currently work too much to properly put in the time to stream. But once I have the time I will use those sticky notes that you mentioned. I think they are a great idea.
Once again, thank you for all your hard work that you put into these videos. It shows that you put lots of care and effort into them. Hope to see more from you

You are so inspirational, thank you for that wonderful pep talk at the end. I often find myself in that situation mid stream, when something doent go the way I planned. It's hard to kick myself back into action and move forward again at times. But I'll remember this video fondly and get back on the horse, think of a new path or some new action I can take, and do it!. 😀

Thanks again for this fantastic video! And of course for the last tip! Sometimes, when I'm my only viewer again, I lose confidence and the voices in my head come back and are saying "you're not worth it". But bloody hell, I am worth it! I'm close to my first real goal and getting affiliated. Your videos are helping a lot reaching this goal! Wow. :)

Wow, excellent video! Yet another one I've bookmarked to watch again later. I think more collaboration will be the next step I take. I already try to implement or change something for every stream (so I don't get burnt out on building up my channel), but I was worried my doing at least one event stream per month was too much - it's good to know that one a month is the right pace. Thanks!

Dude, I looked for tutorials because I'm contemplating streaming. I wanted to build a setup and know what I'm doing before I start...
I didn't think I'd find a pep talk that would convince me to actually do it.
Thank u so much. <3

So nice to see that you are sharing this. All your Vids helped me so much, and a few other streamers convinced me to start out.
Stay true my man.

WOW! I've been getting same mistakes as well. No collaboration, no community streams, etc. And one more is I don't believe in myself that I'm not worthy to be watched. But I'll surely take this advice and remember them! I'll comeback to this video to let you know, if it improves! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!💖

Just had a very very bad night on stream with low viewers and no chat interaction at all. Topping that, I was so exhausted from work, I was getting so grouchy and when I watch back the VOD, even I wanted to shut it off. That last tip is what I really need to hear now man. You actually bought a tear to my eyes. lol. Thank you, really. Thank you! :D

Wow! Thanks for the video! I love that you share lessons learned - very much appreciate your time for doing this. I'm a very small streamer and have actually had some viewers try out streaming after watching. They often come to me for advice and I don't always know how to help, but often send them to your channel for guidance. Looking forward to your next video!

WOW! I've been an Eljay fan for some time, now, and have been following your advice for my streams since the beginning! Recently I hit a drop, from growing up to 10-15 average viewers then suddenly dropping down to 3-4. I was losing my mind, and going crazy about it, because I didn't know what to do and how to fix it. I've been complementing leaving my chanel, but after watching this vid, I'm gonna get off my arse and push through! Thanks so much Eljay, for helping my out along my journey!
