A lot of 'pro level' technique comes from years of playing and making mistakes, and later avoiding so much experimentation, so they're 'safer' but less interesting than they used to be. I prefer to hear the odd flub because I know there's some chances being taken. One thing I have noticed is some players can sense when they're about to flub and pull out, so there's an on the fly change to the 'arrangement'. You can hear the 'trend' and it didn't complete, then went elsewhere. Another technique is to convert flubs into other completed moves, similar to stutterers who substitute words on the fly to keep their speech going, or sports people off-balance who complete their move in an unorthodox way.
