I suggest a metronome for the first 2 years when starting out. From there we blame the drummer😉

Always use a metronome when I practice . I just view it as my personal cowbell player with great time. He is always up for a jam. 🎸

I couldn't tell you how many times I have heard people say the exact same thing about the metronome. As a drummer, I find the metronome to be a fantastic tool to help develop my timing. I think you are onto something when you say that people probably criticize the metronome because it comes from a place of insecurity because people can't keep time very well.

When I was a kid I hated the metronome. (I'm a drummer) now when I practice I can't be without it.

it is so so so important to hear the beat/ groove in your head, when you can hear that, your playing will naturally sit in the pocket and fit the groove so much better. Every bass/guitar player will improve by paying attention to drum rhythms

I think a good way to improve as well is to record yourself and listen to it. When I was starting out, I thought I was doing really well, but listening to my own playing really highlighted the areas in which I lacked.

Like Carol (Kaye) said, don’t just play with the metronome, make it groove

Never understood why people hate practicing with a met. Maybe it’s my roots in marching percussion, but I love the metronome. It keeps us honest and disciplined!

I’ve been doing this kind of practice for years and it made a huge difference. To make it harder, slow down the tempo more and more.

In 35 years of playing music ive never met a musician who did think you should practice with a metronome. Met plenty who dont....but none who didnt think they should.

I still use a metronome and I’ve been playing 10 years!

A good practice trick with metronome is also to put the click on 3 only. Alot harder than it sounds!

I always love his modified upright bass position when he plays. Would love a short on why he plays that way

With different metronome apps, you can customize the meter to YOUR specific rhythms, based on the needs of a given practice session, and a tool that works for you, not the other way around. Also looking at the metronome through the lens of " how can this tool contribute to my music goals" rather than "this tool rules my musical journey and goals" can really makes more practical and fun.

Also thinking of the ride cymbal as the metronome in a song can go along way to associating a practical, meaningful, association with using a metronome.

The 2 / 4 idea is actually really genius

I'm not a big fan of metronomes but have you ever heard a perfectly played piece over a metronome?... It's really awesome...
