The Exorcist: Believer
Only in Theaters October 6

Exactly 50 years ago this fall, the most terrifying horror film in history landed on screens, shocking audiences around the world. Now, on Friday, October 13, a new chapter begins. From Blumhouse and director David Gordon Green, who shattered the status quo with their resurrection of the Halloween franchise, comes The Exorcist: Believer.

Since the death of his pregnant wife in a Haitian earthquake 12 years ago, Victor Fielding (Tony winner and Oscar® nominee Leslie Odom, Jr.; One Night in Miami, Hamilton) has raised their daughter, Angela (Lidya Jewett, Good Girls) on his own.

But when Angela and her friend Katherine (newcomer Olivia O’Neill), disappear in the woods, only to return three days later with no memory of what happened to them, it unleashes a chain of events that will force Victor to confront the nadir of evil and, in his terror and desperation, seek out the only person alive who has witnessed anything like it before: Chris MacNeil.

For the first time since the 1973 film, Oscar® winner Ellen Burstyn reprises her iconic role as Chris MacNeil, an actress who has been forever altered by what happened to her daughter Regan five decades before.

The film also stars Emmy winner Ann Dowd (The Handmaid’s Tale, Hereditary) as Victor and Angela’s neighbor, and Grammy winner Jennifer Nettles (Harriet, The Righteous Gemstones) and two-time Tony winner Norbert Leo Butz (Fosse/Verdon, Bloodline) as the parents of Katherine, Angela’s friend.

When The Exorcist, based on the best-selling book by William Peter Blatty, was released, it changed the culture forever, obliterating box office records and earning 10 Academy Award® nominations, becoming the first horror film ever nominated for Best Picture.

The Exorcist: Believer is directed by David Gordon Green from a screenplay by Peter Sattler (Camp X-Ray) and David Gordon Green, from a story by Scott Teems (Halloween Kills), Danny McBride (Halloween trilogy) and David Gordon Green, based on characters created by William Peter Blatty.

The film is produced by Jason Blum for Blumhouse and by David Robinson and James G. Robinson for Morgan Creek Entertainment.

The executive producers are Danny McBride, David Gordon Green, Stephanie Allain, Ryan Turek and Atilla Yücer. Universal Pictures presents a Blumhouse/Morgan Creek Entertainment production in association with Rough House Pictures.

All I can say is that it’s gonna be very difficult for a movie like this to reach the same level of horror that the original had

Edit after release: Welp I was right…

“One girl lives, one girl dies” omg that gave me chills . We’ve never witnessed two possessed girls getting exorcism at the same time

Nothing compares to the original. No cheesy over acting or phrases, it was simply a bone chilling experience, still it!

It will never surpass the original in visuals, direction, narration, story dialogues, The 1973 version is so ahead of its time and it still gives me chills every time I watch it. It has aged pretty well!

What’s insane is how freaking talented these children are lol. I work at a elementary school and even the most talented child I couldn’t see them doing this level of acting 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

RIP to William Friedkin the director of the original 1973 Exorcist film. If this movie turns out well it's unfortunate he won't be able to see it...❤

It’s gonna be tough to live up to the original. But hearing tubular bells at the end and seeing Ellen Burstyn brought tears to my eyes 🥹

I was 16 in 1974 when the original came out. As a raised Catholic this movie scared the bejeezes out of me and my friends. Nightmares for a long time...On a side note, a guy I work with had this obsession with Linda Blair and one Halloween drove down to Rhode Island (think it was), drunk as hell and had his picture taken with her (some spooky wourld type thing). She wrote on the pic, " To Gary. You make my head spin.".

I will admit, that did get me in the feels when Katherine cried out "I don't want to go to Hell" but that could just be the demon screwing around with them. The demon's voice saying "God played a trick on you" afterwards was both brilliant and terrifying.

Hearing Tubular Bells play over this trailer gives me chills. David Gordon Green let me down with Halloween Ends, so I’m hoping this fairs better.

Blumhouse need to make a public apology to William Friedkin, William Peter Blatty, Linda Blair, Ellen Burstyn, Max Von Sydow and Jason Miller for making Exorcist Believer. The scariest thing about it was that I actually wasted 2 hours of my life watching it...

To follow up The Exorcist is a big fucking task but this looks promising.

What made the original so great is that's it's a movie FIRST and a horror movie second.
The horror comes from the fact that it's a likable family, in a normal (non horror) house and the events escalate in a natural way. That's why I also love Hereditary. It's just a normal family

This is the first movie in a while that I’ve been excited for 😂

The Exorcist III was by far the superior film. Incredible dialogue, George C Scott is a massive character, pulpy, raw, & Brad Dourif does a masterclass performance 🎭
