The Exorcist: Believer
Only in Theaters October 6

Exactly 50 years ago this fall, the most terrifying horror film in history landed on screens, shocking audiences around the world. Now, on Friday, October 13, a new chapter begins. From Blumhouse and director David Gordon Green, who shattered the status quo with their resurrection of the Halloween franchise, comes The Exorcist: Believer.

Since the death of his pregnant wife in a Haitian earthquake 12 years ago, Victor Fielding (Tony winner and Oscar® nominee Leslie Odom, Jr.; One Night in Miami, Hamilton) has raised their daughter, Angela (Lidya Jewett, Good Girls) on his own.

But when Angela and her friend Katherine (newcomer Olivia O’Neill), disappear in the woods, only to return three days later with no memory of what happened to them, it unleashes a chain of events that will force Victor to confront the nadir of evil and, in his terror and desperation, seek out the only person alive who has witnessed anything like it before: Chris MacNeil.

For the first time since the 1973 film, Oscar® winner Ellen Burstyn reprises her iconic role as Chris MacNeil, an actress who has been forever altered by what happened to her daughter Regan five decades before.

The film also stars Emmy winner Ann Dowd (The Handmaid’s Tale, Hereditary) as Victor and Angela’s neighbor, and Grammy winner Jennifer Nettles (Harriet, The Righteous Gemstones) and two-time Tony winner Norbert Leo Butz (Fosse/Verdon, Bloodline) as the parents of Katherine, Angela’s friend.

When The Exorcist, based on the best-selling book by William Peter Blatty, was released, it changed the culture forever, obliterating box office records and earning 10 Academy Award® nominations, becoming the first horror film ever nominated for Best Picture.

The Exorcist: Believer is directed by David Gordon Green from a screenplay by Peter Sattler (Camp X-Ray) and David Gordon Green, from a story by Scott Teems (Halloween Kills), Danny McBride (Halloween trilogy) and David Gordon Green, based on characters created by William Peter Blatty.

The film is produced by Jason Blum for Blumhouse and by David Robinson and James G. Robinson for Morgan Creek Entertainment.

The executive producers are Danny McBride, David Gordon Green, Stephanie Allain, Ryan Turek and Atilla Yücer. Universal Pictures presents a Blumhouse/Morgan Creek Entertainment production in association with Rough House Pictures.

Nothing's scarier than demonic possession. I hope this story lives up to its hype. I am ready to be scared again.

The makeup for the possessed girls look really good! Hopefully the story/ script for the film is good as well, I don’t think it’ll beat the original but I hope it will be a good sequel

Trust me, DGG is not even remotely interested in matching the greatness that the original Exorcist film had because he himself knows that is impossible, but he just wants to make a great sequel which fans can enjoy and be spooked by. This has nothing to do with Halloween Kills or Ends whatsoever, it is an entirely seperate thing and I have faith DGG will deliver, so please anybody who didn't like the Halloween films, I ask you all to push that to one side as well as come to your own conclusions when Exorcist: Believer is released. I personally loved all the films in the Halloween trilogy DGG made, but for those who didn't please give this a chance because you never know how you might feel about the movie until you have watched it. I am really looking forward to it and very much believe it is going to be amazing, but let's all just see what happens during the movie as well as the sequels after it.

Obviously this will never top the legendary first film but this definitely looks extremely promising. I’m surprisingly excited to see this. All that I hope for with this film is for it to get under my skin and keep me up at night lmao.

The challenge for The Exorcist: Believer, then, was to create something with a similarly domestic feeling to the original, while acknowledging that demonic possessions have been a staple (and evolving) part of horror cinema for five decades now.

I don’t think it’s in very good taste that this film being under the title of the exorcist franchise for additional sales or popularity and including Helen Burstyn without mentioning in this video at all the impact of the novel or the original film on society and what a landmark it is, Friedkin has just passed away and there’s no mention of him or his work in this at all, like David Gordon Green isnt even grateful for the opportunity to have a movie of his within the same sentence as Friedkins, it’s not a contest but give credit where credit is due. R.I.P William Friedkin

You don't have to touch the original which is impossible.bitnit looks very scary very promising and the time and fans will gonna answer a lot of questions ❤

It still won't have the same feel as the original. I find HD removes the tense atmosphere in horror these days, also the lack of practical effects etc..

This looks interesting.. but I doubt it will be nearly as good as the original 1973 exorcist which will be 50 yrs old this year as well. Unfortunately the director (William Friedkin) passed last month in august💔💔
