The Exorcist: Believer
Only in Theatres October 6

Exactly 50 years ago this fall, the most terrifying horror film in history landed on screens, shocking audiences around the world. Now, on Friday, October 6, a new chapter begins. From Blumhouse and director David Gordon Green, who shattered the status quo with their resurrection of the Halloween franchise, comes The Exorcist: Believer.

Since the death of his pregnant wife in a Haitian earthquake 12 years ago, Victor Fielding (Tony winner and Oscar® nominee Leslie Odom, Jr.; One Night in Miami, Hamilton) has raised their daughter, Angela (Lidya Jewett, Good Girls) on his own.

But when Angela and her friend Katherine (newcomer Olivia Marcum), disappear in the woods, only to return three days later with no memory of what happened to them, it unleashes a chain of events that will force Victor to confront the nadir of evil and, in his terror and desperation, seek out the only person alive who has witnessed anything like it before: Chris MacNeil.

For the first time since the 1973 film, Oscar® winner Ellen Burstyn reprises her iconic role as Chris MacNeil, an actress who has been forever altered by what happened to her daughter Regan five decades before.

The film also stars Emmy winner Ann Dowd (The Handmaid’s Tale, Hereditary) as Victor and Angela’s neighbor, and Grammy winner Jennifer Nettles (Harriet, The Righteous Gemstones) and two-time Tony winner Norbert Leo Butz (Fosse/Verdon, Bloodline) as the parents of Katherine, Angela’s friend.

When The Exorcist, based on the best-selling book by William Peter Blatty, was released, it changed the culture forever, obliterating box office records and earning 10 Academy Award® nominations, becoming the first horror film ever nominated for Best Picture.

The Exorcist: Believer is directed by David Gordon Green from a screenplay by Peter Sattler (Camp X-Ray) and David Gordon Green, from a story by Scott Teems (Halloween Kills), Danny McBride (Halloween trilogy) and David Gordon Green, based on characters created by William Peter Blatty.

The film is produced by Jason Blum for Blumhouse and by David Robinson (All Eyez on Me, 2016 series The Exorcist) and James G. Robinson (All Eyez on Me, 2016 series The Exorcist) for Morgan Creek Entertainment.

The executive producers are Danny McBride, David Gordon Green, Ryan Turek and Christopher H. Warner. Universal Pictures presents a Blumhouse/Morgan Creek Entertainment production in association with Rough House Pictures.

I absolutely love that Ms. Burstyn keeps gracing the screen with her exquisite presence. I want to think that she wouldn't have said yes to a project that would make a spoof out of the movie that created a whole horror sub genre and that made her a star. Please, please, please, let this be as good as it looks.

I love that the script seems to be a very different story but still reminiscent to the original, and the appearance of Chris MacNeil is a plus I think

I know the OG is always the best. But did you see the acting of the two girls? They're marvelous!

As horror fans we need this movie to redeem the possession genre and what better movie then the OG itself that started it all

The reason the original is so great is largely due to Father Damian Karras’s compelling character arc and how the movie is primarily about him and his declining belief in all things spiritual. Regan and the mother were secondary to him. The movie was scary when it needed to be scary and succeeded in that aspect in a way only a handful of films have in history. But the atmosphere and story at it’s core is what made it the masterpiece that it was.

This new film seems like a soulless horror movie like any other in modern day using a legendary name to sell it. I hope I’m wrong but it seems to primarily focus on the scare factor and “shocking” imagery which in actuality isn’t even pushing any boundaries like the original did.

And when I say soulless, a perfect example is by bringing back Ellen Burstyn to reprise her role from 50 years ago and try and make it make sense in the plot just to please the audience because it’s what’s “hip” nowadays. We all know making a profit is what every film is about at the end of the day but please don’t make it so obvious and show a little originality and passion. Simply paying homage and throwing Easter eggs is a lowball move. This is all my opinion of course.

The original is just top tier, with absolutely no cgi that’s what makes it feel realistic and truly is the scariest movie in my opinion… but for movies nowadays with cgi throughout the whole movie I hope it does not disappoint.

It could never be what the original was, but the last parts of the trailer look terrifying!

The Exorcist 3 is amazing! One of the best horror sequels of all time

This trailer shows that those who made this didn't understand anything about The Exorcist and what made it so compelling.

Love the editing of Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield. Those few notes are famous, but the track on album is a 26 minute opus. So good.

I was kinda worried when I first heard of this….but honestly looks pretty good! Hope like hell it gets an R rating tho. Tired of the lame PG13 bullsh*t.

I know a lot of people who are here are probably big exorcist fans anyway but for those who have only seen the original film they should give the third film a watch. Its actually a direct sequel worthy of watch. Ignore number 2 as its classed as non canon but number 3 is great.

Interested to see how Pazuzu returns in this one considering what happens at the end of 3.

I am a huge fan of The Exorcist. I grew up watching the original. And, im excited that this is getting the same treatment as the Halloween franchise. After the garbage fire that was Exorcist 2: The Heretic (Exorcist 3 was alright), this one looks promising and it brings me joy to see it looking actually effing terrifying. Linda Blair's performance as Regan Macneil will always have a place in my heart, but I'm excited to see what this one brings!

It honestly looks incredible...I just wish we weren't so overly saturated with exorcism films these days. But lets see if the Granddaddy of em all can reclaim it's throne muahahaha

This looks like your generic Exorcisim film and doesn't have any of the same feel as the original. I think the original still stands as the greatest horror film of all time.
