In this episode of our series, Mr. Saltwater Tank - Raw, Uncut, and First Impressions (RUF), Mark will revisit the Hanna Instruments Magnesium checker. Why are we looking at this again? Because Hanna has acknowledged the issues and narrowed down the problem to its reagents they have since replaced. We'll test this checker again to review its use and see what has changed. Will we get an accurate reading this time? Find out!

To be fair, you didn't wipe the cuvette after adding the powder or close it all the way after you put it back in, so it may have been a little closer to the other tests than what you got. Glad they recognized a problem with their product and made it right for customers, not a lot of companies seem to want to do that anymore. I used to use Salifert, and comparing colors just isn't feasible in this day and age. Thanks for updating!

Agreed, constant results are far more important than chasing numbers. I'll be in the market for one now. Thanks for the quick review.

With all the other Hanna test kits, the dry packets have a dotted line that curves around two sides of the packet. Cutting along the dotted line makes all the difference in the world using the dry powder in the packet. I just ordered the Hanna Magnesium checker today, hopefully the packets have the same dotted lines on the packets.

Only issue I have with these pocket checkers is putting the battery in. I have 4 of these and each one I struggled to get the battery base off and you do have to take care as there are small connecter pins in there you can bend and damage. Worth noting I’d say.

I'm sorry, but this one looks like way more trouble compared to others...
Thanks for the vid and saving me the hassle and $$ 🙂

Isn't the real test consistency in your tank, not necessarily being 100% accurate chemically as though you were in a laboratory.

Let’s be honest here takes me less time to do full test with Aquaforest or Salifert than it takes me to clean that cuvette, and it’s more accurate.

Guess it's time to change the name of the segment to just raw :P

Man I wish all these test kits would slowly eliminate any tips on any syringes....or at least make a syringe with the tip molded on to it... I find all tests that use a seperate tip can cause some issue eventually with the reagents ....for example the Red Sea kits do this....salifert doesn't use a tip at all....Hanna uses these goofily made large tips....just seems like more room for user error....simple....mold the tip into the syringe or eliminate it

Too much time to do a test that you lucky do once a month. Less eggs less expensive and less regent that not even accurate.
