Just wanted to say thank you. This was helpful - one of my HDDs has just been flagged as 're-identified', which Synology says is an early stage of failure (though it tells me to back everything up while telling me the drive is healthy!). So, taking no chances, I've just replaced it - and your walk-through was very helpful.

Pro-tip. GO to control pnale, Hardware & Power, and in General you can "Mute" the alarm bell (if like me it takes a day to get over to the store to get a replacement HDD)
