More companies are dropping education requirements from job postings, but a new study shows you're still much better off in the job market with a college degree. Parisa Fatehi-Weeks, a senior director at Indeed, joins CBS News to explain the implications of these changes.

It's hard even for them. Entry level positions that require a Master's Degree and 5 years experience. That's BS.

Really?

I see lots of videos of graduates reduced to tears on tiktok because they work 50 hours a week, and can't save anything because of cost of living.

College is not worth the cost anymore.

this is based on the fact that the few who got the few jobs, had degrees.

Of course. If you don’t have a degree, they don’t have to pay you for your skills. I’ve been there before. It is all about their bottom line, money wise.

Go on indeed…lots of jobs require bachelor associate and pay 17-19 hourly that’s not right

It's a complicated topic, but in short...it depends on where you apply, what position, what pay, your resume, cover letter, reference, and sometimes...your race. Yes, race does matter in this topic because white privilege is still a thing. No one just talks about it.💯

Blame the government who made too many colleges. A college needs a government grants from the government to establish their business. College used to be a privilege to go but anyone can get a college degree from a random online college

Yeah but a gender studies degree doesn't get you very far anymore.

In 🇨🇦: hold my 🍁 syrup cup

I think part of it is that a lot of employers still PREFER a college degree even if they don't REQUIRE it.

If I was an employer I would never hire an applicant without a degree because so much comes with a young person with a degree that is extremely valuable. Ignorance is not bliss! The applicant could have a two year degree, four year degree or graduate degree. Also, if I was an employer I would not hire people who didn't read a physical book on a regular basis. Somehow, in my dream HR department there would be a reading comprehension test of some kind. The most ideal candidate is one that not only has a degree, a higher degree would be even better, but also extensive life or work experience outside academia in some way. Oh what a possibly robust applicant they would be.

Even though they drop the degree requirement they are still going to hire the person with a degree and experience

She’s really trying to make using ‘skill’ as a verb a thing. I truly hope it doesn’t catch on.

Dropped out of high school in 1988. Got a GED. Got into the Carpenters Union in 1990. Then the stationary engineers Union in 2007. Have made over 100k a year some years. Plus great health insurance and a pension and 401k. I’ve done at least as well and in a lot of cases better than college grads my age. But you got to be able to take a layoff. Maybe change careers. Roll with the punches in life. Recession, layoffs, inflation. Those things are gonna come. Whether you’ve got a masters degree or not.
Been living in Thailand for 6 months now. My advise for someone young with a degree or not is to work remote. Digital nomad. Figure out the freelance thing or make your own company. You’re better off making 50k a year in Bangkok than making 100k a year in Chicago NYC or LA. More value in SE Asia or Latin America than living in the US. But wtf do I know? I’m just a blue collar dropout retired in SE Asia in my mid 50s.

People who have degrees do often get paid more than someone who doesn't. But that includes high school dropouts.

A lot of people fail to realize that learning a trade in 2-3 years can lead you to a 6 figure salary. You can also take the small business route, start a youtube channel to promote a sevice, social media, onlyfans if you're ok with such a thing, etc... The way I see it, unless you want to be a doctor or lawyer, going to college is truly not required for fiancial success any more in the modern global economy.

And yet, they haven't figured out how to pay their bills like everyone else.
