I worked blue collar jobs 10 years before getting a white collar job. Never got a Carhartt from my employer until I worked for a tech company. Go figure.

The worst part of this video is hearing that 2008 was 16 years ago.

Just a note, the longer tail was a design improvement to address cold hitting the back when ppl bent over.

My 50yr old carhart from 1969 that originally belonged to my grandfather then it got passed down to my father and then to me is much better than the new ones. It has slightly faded and gained a few diesel and blood stains over the years but that just adds character

The Carhartt standard farming jacket I bought last fall (J130-M) is a made in Mexico one, but it thick, doesn't have loose lining, built in hood, protection of cinched wrist area, and brass, and is LVL 3 weather rated for Midwest winters. So it must depend on the model, I've definitely seen flimsier, modern Carhartt, but my jacket definitely isn't.

As someone who always looks at what things are made of.. especially clothing... I especially appreciate this video. Respect my good sir

I switched to Duluth Trading a decade ago, I only have one Carhartt jacket left, because it sits on a hanger and never gets worn. Back in the day Abercromby & Fitch used to make some great clothes, then they went "high fashion"

Just got a 1970s denim overcoat from my papaw, real wool, double stitch everywhere, great pockets, fits a little tight but is amazingly comfortable. Cant say that about any newer stuff ive got, ive worn that coat all winter and it has yet to fade or catch a strand yet.

I was gifted a carhartt coat a few years ago, It was ripped on the first logging job I wore it on.

This happens with all cheap clothing, or workwear.

I used to get picked on for wearing champion, because it was cheap.

And thank god I moved over to Tough Duck years ago for work wear.

Just realized I have a vintage Detroit carhart. I love it. It’s my go to for everything

As someone who grew up in rural Michigan, seeing NYC hipsters wearing Carhartt and carrying Starbucks has really been the most surprising thing of the 21st century so far.

I've got carhartt coats/coats in general that were probably my grandpa's and I still wear them. Good coats. The zipper breaks before anything else.

That's why I still own and will always own and wear my Carhartt that was bought in 2002.

I worked at sea in the '90s. Carhartt lined overalls with a snap-on hood. Pancake ice nearby. Going in and out of freezer cargo holds. It worked great.

Change of life, location, etc. Then more changes...

I moved back to the West Coast in mid 2001. It was the first time that I noticed their experiments with thinner and lighter fabric. The store keeper referred to it as a, "Spring, Summer, Fall, weight." The West Coast cools down at night in the summer. And you just had to add an extra sweater layer in Spring and Fall. I loved that jacket. But it wasn't durable. It wasn't a true work jacket. And I never saw the old duck canvas jackets again.

Top comment said it all. They made quality up until it wasn’t just popular for workers but trendy for everyday wear. Got cheap and it’s unfortunate. Luckily like the few of us we had grandpas and dads who kept there OG wear.

I still have my dads old carhartt jacket from the 80s. It fits me so perfect and it looks worn and amazing. Ive had friends try to buy it from me.

They used to reinforce the front pocket on their work t-shirts I haven't found any with that in years they used to have a much better quality lining on their hoodies these days not so much
