i have my grandfathers barbour. it was bought by his friend, at his request when his friend visited the uk. my grandfather transferred the money to him, at least 30 years ago now possibly more. he passed away several years ago and i inherited the jacket. it’s one of my two favorite jackets i own (the other being my grandfather’s other old woolrich PSU forestry school jacket from probably 70 ish years ago)

this barbour jacket has been through everything with me. from several day bushcraft trips in the woods, to utility work, to rain. it doesn’t care. it keeps going, keeps me dry as a bone, and warm in the wind and even in the winter time!!.
especially when i throw a thin wool jacket on and a hoodie under it. ( for reference i live in upstate ny we regularly get temps of like 25 to -5 in the winter)

i’ve rewaxed it probably 3 times now, since having it. and i honestly need to send it to barbour to do repairs on. because the liner is ripped up in spots and some outside seems have holes. just from the decades of use. but even with those holes, i somehow still, stay bone dry in rain and snow.
no complaints about it.

barbour jackets are truly a heirloom quality product. that absolutely no doubt, if treated and serviced right every other year or so. will last not just your life time, but your grandkids life times.

i truly look forward to putting that jacket on every time i do. and i am absolutely ecstatic, that i will get to wear this jacket for the next 40+ years (most likely my entire life and probably my kids lives too if i’m honest)

Some more interesting info about the Barbour Bedale: it's designed as a horse riding jacket, hence the poppers allowing you to expand the back of it a little. When you are sitting on a horse you might need that extra room to let the jacket splay out comfortable. Also, the soft cuffs are quite practical in that if you are holding the reins in windy/wet weather, the wind and rain won't fly up your sleeves.

Compare that with the Beaufort jacket - it is a hunting jacket. Instead of soft storm cuffs it has a thin washable fabric that closes with some velcro. So you don't get animal blood all up your arms and stains on the storm cuff from handling the animal! Also instead of poppers on the back you have a huge "game pocket" accessible from both sides, so you can store your dead rabbit or whatever (I got a laptop in there, and I've stuffed shopping in there too lol).

Not sure about current production but the Bedale and Beaufort have historically always been made in England (along with another model, which I can't remember). All their other jackets are made in Europe - I asked them once and they said Romania I believe.

Being British and having been brought up wearing Barbour jackets, it’s always going to be Barbour for me. Well made, last for years with regular waxing and look dressy and casual. Can’t believe how expensive they seem to be in the US though! They are a lot cheaper here.

**READ FOR A CHEAPER BARBOUR**

Apparently prices on Barbours are dramatically higher here in the US. Looks like you can get them at a fraction of the cost here:

I’m 5’9” and 140lbs!

I wear a 36 in Barbour and I usually wear a 38 in jackets!

I live less than an hour from Filson’s flagship store in Seattle and used to go there frequently. I noticed once they moved their manufacturing, their prices didn’t change to reflect the difference in their costs and the drop in quality was noticeable. I still have some US made Tin Cloth garments and Twill bags that are all still going strong.

Great video as always! Would love for you to continue the waxed jacket comparisons and do a Supply Jacket, Tin Cloth Cruiser, and a Riders Jacket

Barbour Bedale for the win. Only one that can have a hood for the rain

You should do a comparison between Belstaff Trailmaster vs Barbour International. Both classic English waxed canvas jackets used by everyone from Steve McQueen and Paul Newman to Daniel Craig and Brad Pitt to ride motorcycles. The cut might be longer that you normally like but with some cool jeans and a good pair of boots they look cool AF.

Purchase the Barbour in the UK if you can...you can usually get them in the sales for sub $200

My favorite waxed jacket is my Taylor Stitch Project Jacket with its mushroom detail antique brass buttons. 👌🏽 I get so many compliments on it.

Filson is great and takes time to wear in naturally (kinda like a guitar), but looks great once you put in the work. I will say my Bridger Jacker from Pack Animal is my all time favorite waxed cotton winter (lined) jacket. It's really nice, and very cool fit IMO.

For years now, my students have heard me say the statement above. And I’ve come to understand that they each have their own interpretation of it. “Yes, I’m a better actress than I think I am.” “Yes, I’m not only a good businessman, but I’m also a good father.” “Yes, those limiting beliefs I’ve had that I would never be successful are not true.”[copy]...

All Barbour jackets should be purchased from Cox the Saddler which is in the UK. You pay less than $200 for a bedale opposed to the $400+ price linked here.

I was shopping all these waxed jackets and getting ready to buy one. Brave Star has just released a limited 14.75 oz, faux sherpa lined jacket based on the Type 3 for about $170. No wax, but I can do that pretty easily myself if I want, and it costs pennies. Easy choice!👍

I love my Barbour Beaufort and Ogston - my two go-to jackets. And believe it or not, I even wear the lightweight Ogston during heavy Chicago winters with no issues. I do my own waxing on both jackets, though I will need send in my Ogston for minor repairs on pocket buttons - I use the crap out of that jacket. Next purchase will be Belstaff.

Nice video. Have you looked at the Rogue Territory wax jackets. I’m curious how they compare…

I am surprised you went with the XS on the Filson, I am about 2 inches shorter and 10 pounds heavier and I felt like my armpits were being choked off in the XS. Small is a tiny bit big, mostly in the sleeves but with layers fits really well. That said, people rag on this being made in Bangladesh, and for the price I agree that it should be made in the US but I'm more than satisfied with the jacket regardless. I wear it as often as I can, taking ages to really wear in though haha. Anyways, great videos. Been binging your channel since I found it, think you'll really blow up in the future. Production value is just too good. Keep it up!

I like that Timex Ironman you had on for a few shots. Your fashion taste is continually on point!

I would recommend the Wayfare jacket from P&Co. Heavier canvas than most others and it’s less expensive; made in China though.
