Surgery Anxiety and Complications?

Surgery anxiety can be very common before going under anesthesia. However, it can cause certain complications, such as requiring more anesthesia, leading to more nausea, waking up with more pain, and having more surgical complications. Fortunately, there is incredible potential to overcome situational anxiety before surgery, and even began to unfold generalized anxiety. And your mindset before surgery can impact this!

The most powerful medicine in the operating room is usually not what I administer to the patient for anesthesia. Nor is it the surgeon's scalpel. It's the mindset the patient brings to the operating room table!

Recently figured out that I have panic attacks in medical situations like surgery or a stressful doctors visit. I've just been kind of ignoring them but all the symptoms are there. Nausea, sweating, increased heart rate, shaking. Now I understand why my anesthesiologist seemed so concerned for me a few months ago, he knew I was having a panic attack and I didn't o_o

I always Try to before surgery, I have had 14 surgeries because of my cerebral palsy

I swallowed the lidocaine during procedure and had terrible reaction from it now am always dealing with breathlessness and got the arrythmia from it

Aha! Maybe that was why one of my hand surgeries was much more painful than the others. The anesthesiologist (actually a nurse anesthetist) for that surgery was arguing with an assistant about something when, after barely turning his head away from her, he started to shove the anesthesia mask over my nose and mouth. I told him, “Wait! Pay attention to me. Are you putting me under?” He nodded and didn’t look fazed, so paused and then told him to go ahead. I was not pleased. I woke up in a lot of pain. Later, I let my surgeon know I never wanted him in the OR with me again.
