Anxiety Medication Side Effects

Anxiety medications can be powerful when used correctly. Unfortunately, synthetic anxiety medications also have powerful side effects. Tolerance and addiction are two of them. Sedation is a third, which is particularly dangerous when mixing with other medications (like pain killers after surgery).

I still use anxiety medications before surgery and anesthesia. That's because the benefits usually (but not always) outweigh risks! These medications are from the benzodiazepine class (like midazolam/versed and diazepam/valium).

Natural anxiety medications aren't quite as powerful, but they also have more gentle effects (and side effects). I advocate for the most effective treatment with the fewest side effects whenever possible!

I took an online test for anxiety and i scored a 71 out of 100. I think that was pretty high. I have not mentioned it to my doctor or my mom because i am scared. I don’t want to be on medication a long time for anxiety, but i am wondering if my physical symptoms are also things commonly seen in anxiety patients. I sweat often, dry eyes, extremely tight shoulders to the point to where is hard to move, pain in my left side, gastrointestinal problems, neck pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, and tingling and pain in right shoulder an arm. If you see this or anyone else knows please respond. 😢

Valerian root extract noticeably helps me a lot but I’ve only had as much as an alcohol tolerance when trying it

Hey dr. Im currently taking a .50mg of xanax but i only take a 1/4 of the pill once or twice a day so its like .125mg of xanax

Im considering trying buspar what do you recommend

Last time I went to the hospital I was having severe anxiety, so they gave me a drug called droperidol in my IV to try to calm me down. It made me really tired and it scared me, like the effects were trying to force me to sleep. Extreme tiredness and slow heart rate. I would lay down but I couldn't sleep because of the weighing down feeling and anxiety. Has anyone else had this problem with that medicine?

I took them for years, a moderate dose at the start and a lower dose toward the end. I'm chronically ill and was basically having a hard time, and I'm grateful I was able to have it at the time....I may not be alive today if it weren't. But I regret relying on it too much, and not having enough mental support. It can be a crutch and now I have terrible rebound anxiety. Don't take this stuff for very long, like a week or whatever the docs say.

Want to save their use for when you really need it, e.g. you’re going to have *Surgery or something very similar* and the whole deal causes you to feel absolute raving terror and experience intense flashbacks - especially the *smells* ….

What are your thoughts on sedation and Dentistry? I have taken Valium for situations like flying and I don’t like the idea of being sedated an endodontist prescribed triazole for an upcoming root canal torn as to whether I am more nervous about being sedated or worked on for this type of procedure.

I had heart problems from valerian it slowed down and I couldn't get out of bed. I've a history of heart rate dropping extremely low. I told my Dr. Its rare now.

Tolerance also develops to natural based medications too my man. I have been at this song and dance for 25 years and have tried it all. There's no cure. You have to keep switching it up to avoid tolerance.

The only anxiety medication that has helped me is Buspirone twice a day. I tried everything else. I am just happy not to have to take a sedative anymore.

I’ve had coordination and mobility issues ever since I received IV fluids in ER. They prescribed BuSpar. What could have been the issue with the IV saline to cause my symptoms?

Thanks to your video I knew to explain that the versed didn’t do anything for my when I had my last surgery so when I had one last week they gave me a lot more and I don’t remember anything after talking with my anesthesiologist!
