It's the code name of the ship and the mission. Prometheus was one of the titans in ancient greek mythology. He is the one that gave fire to mankind and got punished heavily for it. Fire holds a critical place on human's evolution through the ages and is a really logical name for a mission that is about discovering our beginning. Something like a tribute to him.

There are very few times when I see a trailer and think "I'm going to see that first day" but this is one of those times.

The letters forming up like that are a throwback to the original "Alien" released in 1979, also directed by Ridley Scott. The premiering trailer for that film formed up the letters in the same fashion.

Teenagers and their action movies never understand what cinematography really is(comments like oh this movie sucks, boring no action), this film is a masterpiece, beautiful shoots, great climax of suspense, beautiful special effects, the idea of the film, the philosophy, the questions, great script and characters.Congratulations Riddley Scott.Thats how you make a movie.

Could it be, we came from them?? Ive been waiting for a sci-fi film which dabbles in these Ideas for so long.

Thanxs Ridley for brining "Alien" full circle

I am a fan of the Alien "Universe" since the release of the first movie in 1979. And hell yeah, i enjoyed Prometheus a lot. It was what i needed precisly. Prometheus came up with a lot of answers but gave birth to a lot of questions too. All we have to do is to wait the release of the part two.

Finally got to see "Prometheus", as a director I enjoy Ridley's work and as a prequel to Alien I was curious. What began as a promising thought provoking sci-fi story about the origin of the human species soon broke down into a senseless schlock horror finale. This film had sooo much potential, decent cast, great set design, cosmic visual energy, an amazing director...

How? Deacon is tied into the entire film. I'd say this had one of the best scifi endings
and the actors were amazing. this was a dream cast

This movie is very underestimated! Is not it the original Alien? Never mind! Nelogical errors in scenes? It does not matter! It's not horror, I know - but this movie is pure-bred SCI-FI and amazing visuals and effects! The two actors are absolutely perfect here - Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace !!! They deserve a new movie - Prometheus!
Noomi Rapace is a new Sigourney Weaver for me! And Michael Fassbender as David is great too!

Highly doubtful. Prometheus may have the best cinematography and VFX I've seen in a long time, a good plastic and an immense legacy can't hide the fact that the enormous plot holes and lack of character development sunk the movie. I've watched it again two or three times, and unlike the classics you names, you can't deny that the interest drops very quickly. And god knows how long I've waited for that movie.

The film began development in the early 2000s as a fifth entry in the Alien franchise, with both Scott and director James Cameron developing ideas for a film that would serve as a prequel to Scott's 1979 science fiction horror film Alien.

As with some of Ridley Scott films it gives more questions then answers, and took me 3-4 watches before I understood what and why things where what they were, and when I did it made me want to see the film again.
Its another awesome film Ridley Scott has directed and one I will watch again and again. what can I say I am a fan.

It's kind of like a sequel to Alien(If you haven't seen the film, don't read on):
1.The company that owns the ship is Weyland(Just like in Alien).
2.There is a robot in it that has white blood when wounded and cant talk with his head ripped of.(Just like in Alien)
3.And the main reason is: The last cutsene shows an alien in it and in other parts in the movie you can see carvings, signs that look like Alien.
BTW great film if you like sci-fi:D

We have to remember that this is sci-fi referencing or atleast inspired by greek mythology, its kind of blending the two or atleast taking Ideas from it. But for me the real semblance is what exactly were the motives of the engineers themselves, ofcourse a vastly superior race of supposed Alien beings, or were they evolved human beings?? What exactly happened 2000 yrs ago with humans and these engineers?? The sequel has alot of answers to give us.
