Not going to lie this movie was up there for me. I was laughing, cringing, laughing again, cowering behind my hands, on my feet. Ripley Scott did a really damn good job here. the Aliens in this were quite frightening and some of the scenes were so unsettling it is hard to forget them. But hey that is why we watch these movies. I might go watch it now actually.

Alien is a good horror movie but what makes it a classic is its attention to details and the mythology it instantly creates through its image.

I loved the coincidental wordplay, around the 0.50 secs mark, between '...an invitation' 'From whom?' and 'From Ridley Scott'.

Honestly, I'm not a fan of horror films, just the Alien series. What makes it so scary IS the mind expanding creativity. I don't fear the work itself, but Scott really creates a world that you can put yourself into (such as Blade Runner). With other horror films, suspension of disbelief is fairly easy, but when I see Alien (or even Aliens) I still get that part of me that actually feels concern for the Nostromo crew I already know are dead.

I hope so, and without spoiling the ending it looks like that's the direction the franchise is heading! A lot of people are disappointed because it didn't live up to the expectation of being another alien movie. Although it's clearly in the franchise's universe the film has it's own thing going on, and I like that!
