Anyone who is looking for a laptop replacement would be better off going for an actual laptop. I have the 2020 iPad Pro with magic keyboard and also a 2018 MacBook Pro. Any intensive work, excel spreadsheets, multitasking etc, i tend to reach for my MacBook Pro. If i had only the iPad Pro, i think I’d get frustrated with it. So really, both are great if you could have both. If you don’t do spreadsheets and are not fussed about opening more than 2 windows at a time, then the iPad Pro will do fine. If your just typing word documents, browsing the web and doing other basic tasks, the iPad would be the better machine. The screen is awesome, viewing photos, movies etc is amazing. The speakers are better too. Drawing with the Apple Pencil is great fun and useful for annotating. For long work sessions, a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro would be the better choice mainly because of macOS and the ability to open multiple windows and desktops. Also, if you plan to hook up to a monitor, macOS works so much better. Sadly iPadOS is till mirroring only with black bars on the side due to aspect ratio. Whereas with macOS you can use the full display size and work on both the MacBook and the external monitor or multiple external monitors.

I need something where I can edit, big documents, big ppt, , big excels and all at the same time. I really like the ipad, but it is not suitable for me. I really want to be suitable for me, but I can't open more than 2 files at the same time. Its a deal breaker for me.

Thank Greg. As one who has used an iPad only for a few years now, I have become quite comfortable with it, it’s pluses far outweighing it’s problems. It’s truly about what your personal needs are. I use mine for a lot of office work, art, even music. Playing in orchestra with an iPad is more accepted than setting up your laptop too.

Easy choice for me: iPad Pro as Laptop replacement.
But that’s because I have access to Linux server via ssh / remote control

So I essentially always have a full PC environment with me where I can do all my coding + iPad benefits
