Very much appreciate this review. I have both the Combo Touch and the Folio Touch for older iPads. I love both of them but one thing they have in common is that stand that folds out. Something about that stand just seemed like it would wear out rather fast considering how it felt. You're the ONLY reviewer I was able to find that directly talked about it. So glad to get some information on someone that's used it for years and can report back. Thank you for that!

And, for the record, both the Folio and Combo Touch cases are very good and solid. =)

Great content. Why is your video so dark?

I am impressed by how include hands on ergonomics, cable fit, the charging pass through, cleanliness, and prices.

I have the Combo Touch for both an 11” M1 iPad Pro and 12.9” M1 iPad Pro. The case provides great protection for the back and edges of the iPad, plus it still works well with screen protectors. The keyboard is good, but sometimes it randomly disconnects. It works again if I detach and reattach the keyboard.

In three years of ownership the cases have faired well. On the 12.9” case I’ve noticed the area around the speaker grill became soft and deforms slightly on both sides. Doesn’t interfere with using the iPad, just a sign the case will eventually need to be replaced.

Combo Touch Advantages:
1. Provides complete protection for the iPad with a casing that covers its sides.
2. Flexible usage, can be separated from the keyboard for various usage modes like tablet or tent mode.
3. Adjustable kickstand for different viewing angles.
4. Lighter weight compared to the Magic Keyboard.
5. Larger trackpad provides more space for gestures and movements.
6. More affordable price compared to the Magic Keyboard.

Combo Touch Disadvantages:
1. Takes up more space on the desk compared to the Magic Keyboard.
2. Stability when used on the lap is less optimal, especially if there is a slope on the thighs.

=

Magic Keyboard Advantages:
1. Sturdy design with aluminum construction provides a premium feel.
2. Provides a laptop-like user experience with good lappability.
3. Adjustable to various viewing angles, including a low angle for watching videos in bed.
4. Passthrough charging through the hinge allows for charging while connected to additional devices.
5. Trackpad offers more responsive clicking experience.

Magic Keyboard Disadvantages:
1. Lack of side protection for the iPad, making it vulnerable to impacts or scratches.
2. Heavier compared to the Combo Touch.
3. Higher price point.
4. Does not offer the same flexibility in usage as a protective casing.

Excellent Review. Packed with information but also direct and point by point. Very well done.

I was 100% convinced of getting the Logitech keyboard, it seemed the logical option… Until I saw that its not comfortable to use it on the lap or on the bed, which is where I usually use my iPad, on a proper desktop I will most likely use my MacBook. So, I ended up buying the Magic Keyboard and I don’t regret it. I am not saying the Logitech is not good, it just doesn’t adjust to my needs.

Excellent video and information! I was looking for something on the new Logitech case. I have the new 13” iPad Pro with the Magic Keyboard. It replaced my 12.9 M1 iPad Pro. I bought both the Magic Keyboard and the Logitech keyboard for the M1. I used the Logitech for awhile and loved the extra protection, but ultimately I switched back to the Magic Keyboard because you can pick up the iPad and keyboard and carry it (while it’s open) around in one hand like a laptop. You don’t have to close it to move it or use two hands. That was a bigger deal to me than I expected. If I hadn’t gotten used to using the Magic Keyboard first, I’m sure I wouldn’t have noticed. The other thing is the extra port. That’s handy not just if the iPad’s port is being used, but also if the charger to plug into is on the opposite side of the iPad.

As for extra protection, MOFT makes a great snap on case for the iPad Pro. You snap the iPad into the case and it magnetically sticks on the Magic Keyboard (as does the iPad without) and it docks the Apple Pencil too (while still allowing it to charge). You can also get a magnetic stand for the case so you can have the iPad stand alone similar to the Logitech case.

10:50 That’s not true about not being able to change the keyboard brightness in Control Center (CC). The keyboard brightness (KB) function can easily be added to CC. Just go to CC in Settings, scroll down to More Controls, and add the KB function to Included Controls. IMO, it’s not much of an inconvenience to access KB via CC. Also, adjusting KB isn’t something one should need to do too often, I would think.

Great comparison. I prefer the smaller and more stable footprint of the Magic Keyboard. When I am in a restaurant sitting at my favorite sushi bar, the Magic Touch foot print being smaller works better than the larger footprint of the Combo Touch.

You can also add the keyboard brightness of magic keyboard into the control center of the iPad so when u need to change it you can then just swipe from the right corner and change with a slider or put the mouse in the far right corner which will pull up the same thing.

This is the best video I’ve seen for this comparison. Returning my Apple keyboard

I used the combo touch previously but really like how the fact that it's up off the desk and the keys on the Magic keyboard was, at least compared to previous models, much better. If I'm going to use it primarily as a table for something, especially traveling or music, I just put it in a different case. Great and very thorough review!

I use my iPad Pro mostly while reclining on the couch or in bed, and a lot of that time I’m drawing/painting/sketching. The Combo Touch is far and away the better solution for me for this use case. The Magic Keyboard just isn’t stable in bed for me and often I can’t get the angles right for comfortable drawing.

The Combo Touch keyboard folding back under the stand to create a flat surface is actually perfect for this use case and provides a stable surface for use in bed. Feels like a happy accident but it makes the Combo Touch basically perfect. I would buy this case just for this design even if I never wanted the keyboard or trackpad.

It’s slightly less convenient to type on the Combo Touch in bed, but easily doable and I’m using it to write this post with zero issues at the moment. The ability to remove the keyboard when I just want to carry the iPad around the house to watch a YouTube video in the kitchen or dining room is pretty great, especially as an upgrade from the 2021 Combo Touch which was MUCH bulkier and didn’t have the detachable keyboard.

On way to address your concern about dirt getting into the space around the track pad is to go into Setting> General>TrackPad and turn on “Tap to Click” then you don’t have to push down at all. I’ve had a Combo Touch on my M2 Pro since it was released and it still works flawlessly to this day. Also to address the tight fit around the USB C port you could carefully trim as needed. Great comparison review, I do love what the Magic Keyboard offers, but even though the Combo Touch is no Otterbox when it comes to protection, it’s way better than nothing.

I think your video looks rather dim. Perhaps that's the wrong word, but not very saturated at least. That's not to say that the picture is not excellent but that's just my first hand impression. If that's a conscious choice i can respect that. It's probably more true to life.

By far the best, most comprehensive guide to these cases. Thanks Jerry! The MK is so expensive but definitely the one I ended up getting.

Thank you. I appreciated the comparison and contrast of the two keyboard attachment types for the iPad. You were concise and thorough, without bringing up unnecessary information. The mention of case durability was extremely helpful when making a decision for a potential longterm product pairing.

The sides protection with logitech is extremely important, if the iPad falls while attached to the keyboard either open or closed, the tendency to fall on the side is 100% which has > 90% chance of breaking the screen (even with screen protector) basically what happens is the iPad falls on one of the 2 top angles & bends the frame inside which strains the screen and breaks it, when that happens in a tandem OLED display that’s gonna be painful
