Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro review

Apple’s new Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro makes it easy to turn a tablet into a laptop. But it’s expensive, heavy, and more limited than you might expect. Still, if you want to convert an iPad into a laptop, it’s the best option available.

Would you use the iPad Pro as a laptop?

12.9 inch version for 349 dollars, that's a great deal! **me before realising he was not talking about the iPad...**

Out of all The Verge reviewers thus far, Dieter has the best looking home. No contest.

I know this is a review for the keyboard but... his living room has cosy looking furniture, a warm interior design and nice plants. Haha.

I have been using iPad and Apple Pencil for one year. It's main purpose has become Notability. I import my textbooks as PDFs, and read them while highlighting. I also take notes on it as well. I use the traditional smart cover for my iPad for the protection it needs. Instead of printing any school materials out now, I just "print" it to notability, handwrite my answers, and then "print" it back to the computer for submission. Without Notability, it's really just a YouTube device for me.

The Verge team can't even see each other in person yet their production quality is still top notch.

Shoutout to Herr Dieter’s cat making a casual cameo appearance.

This quarantine has proved that The Verge doesn't need a physical corporate office lol

Let’s hope Logitech brings their keyboard with trackpad to the iPad Pro, rather than just for the lower tier iPads

“Google docs is still a mess on ipad”

Pretty sure that was intentional

Got mine for the 11”, super impressed. trackpad works just like it would on a macbook.

WORTH IT

I love my Surface Pro's kickstand and Type Cover even more now.
I'm just so disappointed that Windows 10 experience in tablet mode is so far behind iPadOS

Why is it that watching Dieter review any device is such a joy whether you like the product or not. Always asking the right question to make the viewer think for themselves. Stellar review!!!

The most satisfying thing about this keyboard cover.

I was hyped for this thing, but I use my Apple Pencil so much that this thing wouldn’t make sense.

Apple designed it this way because the floating effect is a major flex. Apple is banking in this keyboard popularizing iPad with looks rather than versatility.

For me, I like that it is heavy. Gives me a feeling of security and that this is a quality product and not plastic rip off.

The magic keyboard is perfect for what I use my iPad for. I travel a lot for a living. I’m usually gone for about 20-24 days out of the month. The versatility of the iPad is ideal for someone that’s on the go a lot and the keyboard is perfect for someone like me who hates typing on a large touch screen. It serves as a stand for laying on the hotel bed while I watch a movie, it also affords the ability to protect your iPad while it’s in your bag and actively traveling. I love the feel of the iPad without a case too so the ability to just pick up the iPad without having to snap off a case is amazing. Idk…it just made sense for me to buy it. Definitely well worth the money.
