The web is full of building instructions and recommendations for a tea light oven.
I advise against it! You can see why in this self-experiment video!

Thank you very much for taking the time to explain about the dangers of these devices, and also just that they are not even cost efficient. Every year, lately, I have been seeing this idea pop up in social media, and moreso this year with the booming prices of energy. It's important to at least let people know so they can choose for themselves whether to heed the warnings or take their chances. Shared, thanks!

I agree with everything you said except one candle is 80 watts not 40. Take care and be safe.

Heating yourself is much more energy efficient than heating air. Old fashioned extra jumpers, blankets and hot water bottles should be used when possible. NEVER leave an open flame unattended and never work with fire without adequate ventilation. And a means of extinguishing the flames.

Excellent video Vanessa! As an engineer, I like that you are one of the first videos to break it down properly. There are only so many thermal watts to release with a candle. Candles use convention heat as the energy normally goes up to the ceiling. The pot slows this and converts it radiant heat with the clay pot. Since we feel radiant heat easily, people think there is a lot of heat available.

It’s great that you’re giving us the truth about these heaters. Thank you!

Vanessa, here's a camping trick that I learned at the Pathfinder, and I use it every time the power goes out. I take the alcohol stove filled with fondue fuel. I take the stainless-steel single wall water bottle. filled with water of course. Boil the water. Make yourself a cup of hot beverage. Close the bottle and keep the hot bottle in your clothes or in your blanket. I'll guarantee you that you'll be warm. If it works in Canada, it will work in Bavaria also

Great demonstration video Vanessa. I have to admit that I have tried this before, and it doesn't work. You will never heat a room with one. Thanks for sharing.

thanks you for this video, finally someone mentions that the candle use up oxygen when they are burning. most people know this but not all do.

Meine freundin, I understand your frustration about the HIGH prices of SIMPLE things. Inflation is like a "feeding frenzy", a school of piranhas. It feeds on itself. The only way to stop it is "DON'T BUY". Except necessities. Vanessa, if we don't feed the beast, he will go away!😌

This is not meant to heat an open room. This is an emergency device to warm a small tent perhaps set up inside a dwelling--sleeping bags on the floor--that type of thing.

I use 4 9hour tealights under a pot, I have a smaller pot inside the big one, the pot balances on 3 pot, you had to many candles, it stands on a flat pot tray,
No problems, it's on my window sill in the bathroom,
It takes the chill off a cold room when the heating is off,
I dont see a problem with

Great to see you tell the truth!!! So many fall for this, common sense alone says it doesn't work and not safe! Thank you

Hello Vanessa, I made three candle ovens to try them out made them with a methal basket and a glass candle holder inside on an stone sauser. I had most of the materials already at home. So it costs me twenty to thirty euro's to complete those three candle ovens. Almost no heat. Only funny for burning candles and see the candle light trough the little holes in the methal basket. It is a shame people and shops sell those things for way to expensive prices. Thank you for sharing your experiment. Greetings from the Netherlands😉

Good info video Vanessa as I am sure people who know nothing about open flames will get into a lot of trouble as their heating becomes a problem to pay for. CO / CO2 and lack of oxygen are but a few dangers with any open flame as they all give off cancer forming micro parts into the air you breath. So if you get away with one you may not get away with the other long term. Let's hope people get wise as the problem becomes bigger and any small indoor pets are not looking to good which is another sign of the same problem. Arthur (UK)
