As a 16 year old in 1973 I loved the music but to tell the truth like so many of my favourite bands back then I didn't have a clue what they were singing about even if I could understand them. And yes English is my first language. Half the problem was being poor white trash my parents took me out of school and sent me out to work at 14 (and kicked me out of the house at 15) I just didn't get many of the cultural references in the lyrics by university educated people. But I did love the Music and still do. So much more sophisticated and creative than what I hear today.
