I’m 74 & have been there. We come from a time when songwriters were writing & making songs about the lives we were living.

The older I get the more of an appreciation I have for the music of my mother and father's generation! I love this song.

Born in the 50's. Lucky to be still here and enjoying the music of the 60's and 70's. After listening to this tune I will be listening to Rikki Don't Lose That Number in memory of my friend Ricky that I lost to the bottle last year. We used to listen to it in his apartment when we were young.

The Dan were masters at setting the mood with such diversity of instrumentation. The back beat of congos, cabasa, maracas, and guiro gets that smooth, laid back groove sliding underneath. Then that splashing keyboard comes in over the top with sparse guitar riffs filling in the empty spaces, oh so tastefully and masterfully. And that electric sitar line taken by the keyboards back into the verse at the break. What else needs to be said. The Dan.

To be honest it's by far the best Steely Dan song and surely in the top 3 of the best songs of all time, it's also a crime that this song is so underrated even by steely dan fans.
