Standing Functional Fitness Exercises for Seniors

This 20 minute program is great for seniors who want to focus on functional fitness exercises while standing. These are movements that you already do in your day to day life, but today we are going to work on improving your strength so you can do those movements more easily. We'll finish with a few minutes of stretching at the end.

You are right, Jules, that our balance can be different every day. Once better and once worse also at different times of the day. Also we usually have one leg stronger and the other weaker.
This exercise of lifting the arm and the opposite leg (15:36) is a must for me in my set of balance exercises.

I definitely feel like I'm making progress. I used 5, 8, and 10 pound weights for the different exercises. I loved the little "hop" balance challenge, and was able to do that. I am able to stretch my muscles more easily and go a little bit farther (e.g., hamstring stretch) and do them while balancing. I avoided the pushup - that is the exercise that caused my arm problem in the past, even using the wall. The overhead tricep press felt very good, and I did the triceps stretch at the end. Thanks for this workout, Jules.

This was a great postoperative recovery workout after cataract surgery. Will probably keep with the beginner workouts for a couple of weeks before going back to intermediate.

This is perfect for this morning. With the heavy wet snow coming today every single one of these moves will be used in some way out there walking, shovelling, and lifting.

Brilliant! Jules, you put the FUN into FUNCTIONAL and PERSPIRATION into INSPIRATION (or vice versa). Having you explain why we do each move that we already do in our daily life is super motivation. I particularly liked that this time you chose to have us do different exercises rather than repetitive sets.

25, 01 2023 Hi Jules, this is what YouTube gave me tonight. I wonder how anyone can do these exercises with weights. It challenged me without any. And I do hate those deep squats that make me feel old and decrepit. I have no desire to do them because even looking at them makes me feel like a failure. Without them I feel fine. I am doing my nice little exercises and pay for it if I skip them one day. Like yesterday, I did not do any, today my back was like a block of concrete. It is a great motivator. Workouts need to be done daily otherwise I have a backache. This is one reason I started to do exercises and it keeps me going, but in the meantime I genuinely got to like doing nice moves that stretch my body members, and generally just move. Thank you. Thank you, Jules, for doing this for us seniors. Great combination FF workout. The thought you put into it is much appreciated! If you have time, could you do a senior super slow tempo upper body lifting with dumbbells without a lot of reps & rest periods between? Have a good day -
