I'm 52, and rode sport bikes for 28 years. But ultimately, the riding position, and changes in my own riding habits made me sell my last sport bike and go with a sport touring bike. I still get in a little of the sport ride, but can now again tolerate riding for long stretches of time.

These bikes are so much better than most riders. There's nothing funnier than seeing some old dude on a vfr750 outcornering panigale power rangers.

I got the best of both worlds - the Honda Blackbird 1100xx! It's got low end, mid and high end power but it's very comfortable. Many blackbird owners consider it a sports touring bike. But look at the list of the fastest production bikes ever made and it is consistently in the top 10. So I appreciate what you're saying - I totally agree - sports bikes make great safe touring bikes for the reasons you mentioned. God bless!

Man watching this video before bed last night made me have a dream that your CBRs were my bikes and I was out tearing up the streets on them lol, I took care of em tho ;)

Super sport is track performance, sport touring is road practicality. Do you want performance or something practical, that's what it comes down to.

Saying that lightweight and power will help save you on the street is ridiculous. It's fine if that's what you like, but let's not exaggerate. An old Ninja 250 is faster than most cars and super light. That doesn't make it safer. I've owned lots of bikes over the years and the only think that makes you safer is experience, gear, and attention.

CycleCruza!!! I sat on a cbr600rr at the dealer two days ago and man I am in LOVE! There's a clean looking cbr600rr on craigslist in my area for 5.5k with 6k miles all original fairings and owner says it's mint. You think that it is a good deal? Obviously imma check it out and everything I just don't wanna over-pay. My next bike is going to be my last bike for a very long time.

Having two bikes, a 600RR and a 1000RR is just nuts. You like light and flickable for the really tight stuff or commuting, fine. Keep the 600RR and get yourself a used FJR, 2nd gen, for the second bike. Take it on a long ride, even a long test ride, and it'll blow your mind. They will transition quickly if needed, it just takes more work. No chain maintenance, locking hardbags... Just awesome. People ride them hundreds of thousands of miles. In any realistic street riding scenario, it is faster than a 600RR and right there with the 1000RR. Your girl may even want to join you for a ride now and then, if she's halfway comfortable. ;) My ex and I liked our FJR with the side bags off, but with a Givi topcase (without pad) for her to lean on.

I started riding one handed per your advice. So much more comfortable on my gixxer 600!! Now I can ride for twice as long!

Your points on why you like super sports were good. For what I do on my MC, my 2014 BMW R1200RT is my preference. Responsive in the twisties, good flexibility and presence during commuting, and excellent comfort and range for long distance tours. You should rent one and take a trip on it. I bet you'd be a fan... Not trying to change your mind, but rather, inviting you to have a great experience...

I liked my 03 VFR800 but didn't love it.  It has great low end and mid range torque as you're saying and was silky smooth, but it was kind of a boring bike.  Too smooth.  My Bandit 600 with a V&H exhaust had a rawness about it I missed.

I'm the same wanting light weight but I love long trips. iv got an aprilia rsv1000 mille which is made for the track its horrible around town so I made some adjustable bar risers. what a world of difference. now I can have the bike I like visually light weight and comfortable.

I first wanted a CBR600RR but then I got convinced of that sexy V4 sound of a VFR800. Once you've heard a VFR800 with a proper exhaust, a CBR600RR sounds like a sawing machine compared to it haha :)
Now I am sold and I am definitely gonna buy that one. And also it has a broader torque than a CBR600. Going to buy a 2000 - 2002 pre-VTEC and post-carb model. VTEC is unnecessary and costs a lot to maintain and doesn't really increase a whole lot of power. Just adds unneeded complexity. Plus it has a chain instead of gear driven cams. Gears = longevity and reliability.
And also I think the more upright position of a VFR800 will be better for my back in the long-term. I've seen some guys taking the twisties quite rapidly on that bike.

My Suzuki RS900R is like 450, not too bad. Its is a little top heavy but the tank is huge. Feels very light on its feet at freeway speeds. Love it.

I agree. It's definitely the riding experience. Too bad I'm too poor to experience anything other than my 250 at the moment.
