Queensland taxpayers could foot Olympics 2032 debt
Показать описание
Queensland’s taxpayers could foot the bill for any outstanding debt amassed by the 2032 Olympic Games organising committee.
This is is due to new laws which will be rushed through the parliamentary process in about a months’ time as the committee must be set up by December 21.
Details of the legislation include Queensland taxpayers having to foot any debt accumulated by the committee, and that many documents will remain a secret - with the committee to be exempt from the right to information scheme.
Similar legislation was in place for the body responsible for organising the Sydney 2000 Olympics.
About 20 directors will be selected to sit on the board, with a 50-50 split of men and women.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says it’s about much more than a competition as it's also about seizing opportunities for Queensland.
