Basic Soap Recipe Ingredients:

Single batch-6 bars:

• 3 ounces lye
• 8.5 ounces water
• 20 ounces (2.5 cups) fat

Double batch – 12 bars or loaf:

• 6 ounces lye
• 17 ounces water
• 40 ounces (5 cups) fat

My neighbor's children like those prepackaged fruit cups for their lunches, so I asked her for some empty containers. They look similar to mini bundt cake pans. These make excellent soap molds and are cute. My favorite soap to make has coconut, olive oil, oatmeal and coffee grounds.

When I first made soap I used a wooden spoon and stired it. It took all day and half the night stirring before I got a trace. LOL. I didnt own a stick blender I went out and bought a stick blender the next day.😅

Heidi, have you made goatmilk soap? I saw that using frozen cubes of milk or water controls the high temps.
I've got almost all my supplies, still building my confidence to make my first batch!

Great video. Since we've been making our own soap successfully we've been reluctant to try a new recipe/ingredients because ours turns out so great. But, I'm impressed with how hard the lard sets up, and only after one day. Thanks for sharing!

I been looking for this way of making soap i heard that you can make from recycled oil the one we cooked. pour on a clean towel on top of the recipient to clean the oil then we can use that oil to make soap but thank you so much! 5 cups of melt lard, 6oz of Lye, 17oz of water rain or Distilled

Can you make soap using soy? How can you make home made lye, before commercialism?

The little chocolate molds - would you ever use them for chocolate after having used them for soaps or do you dedicate them only to soap because of the lye?

This is such a great video.. I'm slowly getting supplies to try this. May I ask, after you make the soap, and pour into the mold, how do you clean the used containers and utensils used? we have a septic tank, would that affect it running the remaining residue thru the pipes? I've been making soap with my frozen goats milk...it doesnt rise above 75 when using th ed frozen goats milk

I used to make soaps from used cooking oils from a restaurant and added Borax and washing soda to cut the grease. Works well for handwashing dishes and everything else.

I enjoy making soap too but I cover the lye container with a plastic bag to keep the fumes from escaping.
