When it comes to natural ways to make household soap for cleaning and washing, there are many ingredients available to use. And one of the chief ingredients used by many DIY soap makers is lye. But is there another alternative for those looking to avoid the sticky-icky that comes with handling lye? How about making soap with baking soda instead of lye? This is another way to go about making DIY homemade cleaning agents without too much stress.

The point is to find the alternative to using lye. Sure you can argue this technically isn't soap, under the FDA guidelines. However, we all know just how well things are approved for use and have a harmful impact on the environment and on people. So, I personally appreciate this video. I think it's beneficial into progress of not using any inorganic compound formula.

Large amounts of baking soda can be converted into washing soda by being heated to evaporate the water from it. Most of us who make our own laundry detergent use washing soda as the base so I could see why in this video they used baking soda to make some type of "liquid soap" scrub here. Both baking soda and lye are alkaline natural products but this to me is more of an exfoliant than soap and without some type of fat added to it would over time dry out the skin compared to a hard bar of soap with fats/oils added to help combat dryness during cleansing of the skin.

There's no oil in it for the saponification process to happen. So it can't be classified as soap. But baking soda is great for exfoliating and cleansing skin for those of us with allergies to FDA approved soaps. There's a reason why most of the products made in the US are banned in over 30 countries.

No lye remains in properly formulated, fully saponified soap. And baking soda is also alkaline, but it doesn't make soap. It makes a soft scrub. I personally wouldn't use it on my skin! Superfatted soap is much milder on your skin.

Actually Baking Soda is very harsh for some skin types. No trace of Lye remains in a soap product after properly made.

This is not a soap this is a scrub which is very abrasive to the skin.

It’s not soap that’s a scrub it’s a big difference

During the soapmaking process, all of the lye is used up, making sure that there are no leftover chemicals or harmful substances in your finished product!

This is not a recipe, it's just to prove your point otherwise. Not a good recipe and misleading.

This is click bait translated to English. It's deliberately confusing some items to falsely "prove" its title. I'm not sure how accurate any of the information is.

I am confused! NO lye remains in soap! If you are doing it right. So NO NO NO NO NO ! This is not soap. Maybe exfoliated mixture, but not soap.

This is more like a scrub and has its specific uses.

So it's just a formed backing soda. Why not just use it right out of the bag?

If you make lye soap the right way there is no lye left in it. Also, it sounded to me like you mixed up lye and lard.

Soap is the salt of a fatty acid, this is not soap.
