How To Lock Or Protect Cells After Data Entry Or Input In Excel

This one is very important. I am using excel VBA for this project. This is an advance excel tutorial and I am using excel 2010 for the demonstration. Let’s have a look at the step by step tutorial on how to lock cell after data entry in excel.

Step 1: First select the Cell range you want to lock/protect.

Step 2: Right click on that and click on “format cells”

Step 3: Click “Protection” and check mark the “locked” option to unlock it.

Step 4: Now Click on “Review” and “Protect Sheet”

Step 5: Enter and confirm the password

Step 6: Now Right click on “sheet1” in the lower left corner and click “View code”

Done. Now you know how to protect cell after input in excel

Please can you give me a code in which I can format cells (change cell colors) along with this one time editing and locking of cells. Because when I run this macro, cell color fill option gets disabled, I tried enabling it under the reviews tab>protect sheet, but it works only once and the the macro disables it again. I need a command in the macro which will enable formatting of the selected cells in the macro. Thanks.

Thank you for your kind sharing. But I got problem on this method. Once you click on a cell within the range it will be locked even if you didn’t write anything. I need a code says: only activate cell lock when there’s entry otherwise keep it unlocked. Is that possible? Hope I make myself clear 😅.

hi, how do we allow user to input data in a particular cell based on value of other cell, lets say if A1 is not blank then only allow user to input value in B1 and if A1 is blank B1 should return blank.

How do I lock a cell which is copied from other sheet, I want the information entered on sheet 1 to on the next column of sheet. Ex: I will be entering data on sheet 1 and the summary of it will be populated in sheet 2 however when i edit the information on sheet 1 once again the same information should populate on sheet2 on the next column and I still have the information which i entered previous day
