I don't understand how people, let alone a restaurant, can screw up rice. Rice cookers take all the guess work out of cooking rice. All you have to do is put the proper ratio of rice to water.

It just that they localized to the country they're doing business, US for example. It maybe because from their market research people in the US prefer the rice a little bit on the dry side, nothing wrong with it, everyone has different preference. Also not all rices are equal, some has better texture when cook it a little bit dry while the other need a little bit more water for a chewy texture.

That is the yoshinoya in the US. And original Japanese yoshinoya puts the original flavor plus they add egg and red ginger on the beef bowl.

do not let Uncle Roger eat there at Yoshinoya & eat the gyudon!

I learned how to cook rice when I was 9, it's always baffling to me when I found out people can't do that. Not that hard, like actually super easy, even without rice cookers.

The only reason I'll go to Yoshinoya when it first came to my city is because they got a promotion where the first 100 or so people who spent a certain amount of money there can get a free Doraemon themed bowl.
The rice is good and the beef is to be honest quite a lot and very delicious but the price is so expensive here. For the same price of a beef bowl and a drink I could use the same amount of money to eat three whole meals in a local traditional restaurant.

Hey, not All Americans are clueless. Come down to Hawaii and try some real nice rice dishes. Legit I live for the loco moco.

Okay for anyone who cares:
Hawaiian pizzas and California rolls (sushi) both come from Canada. So blame them if you hate pineapples on pizza.

There’s two places in my hometown with some of the best Asian cuisine. They do some killer ramen, as well as some other Japanese, Thai, and Vietnamese dishes. Approved by a friend from overseas. So I hit the jackpot

As a child of a Filipino who grew up in America, I CANNOT understand how American places have such terrible rice. Just buy a rice cooker for crying out loud! And unfortunately it's hard to find places that have white rice. It's always Mexican rice or something gross like that.
My mom now brings to restaurants a container of rice from home and soy sauce, when she's craving it for breakfast 😅😂 it's her new thing since we bring a bag for containers for food we couldn't eat and nondairy creamer.

Yoshinoya has been in Southern California for over 30 years. I'd say the quality of the food had started to diminish about 8 years ago. I'd pop in once in a great while mainly for the nostalgia and red ginger.

I love gyudon, it really easy to make too. It's sliced beef, Mirin, soy sauce, and onions.
