This is How to Do Things You Don't Want to Do

No matter what you want to accomplish in life, it's going to involve discomfort:

A great career or business requires hard work.

A healthy body needs exercise and foods you don't necessarily like.

Meaningful relationships need vulnerability and compromises.

In fact, anything worthwhile often requires that you do what you don't want to do.

And that can be hard.

But it doesn't have to be.

"The common denominator of success - the secret of success of every person who has ever been successful - lies in the fact that they formed the habit of doing things that failures don't like to do."

One of the best quote I've ever heard "mind is nothing but a suggestion box"

The hardest thing about staying focused and achieving things in todays world for me is not the getting started its the constant bombardment of distractions from the internet.

Often when you're about to do something you unlikely want to do, your head starts thinking endless possibilities and clouding your brain up : | making everything even heavier

I've taken FREEZING cold showers for 50 days in a row. I'm not any stronger. And I still hate using my brain. physical pain is easy

Voluntary discomfort really builds your character and changes your life. I used to ride my bike to the top of the same mountain every morning at 5am. And yes, cold showers actually work. You can feel the effects of these discomforts pretty much immediately anywhere in your life like controlling your depression, social anxiety, insomnia, lack of focus, sexual desire, and...
So to sum it up, do it guys

1. You are not your thoughts
2. Do uncomfortable things everyday to make you mentally stronger. E.g. Doing things you don't want to do but need to do

"Mental resistance gym"
I like that.

I think it's important to understand that the mind's thoughts are themselves influenced by a variety of things. You will think different thoughts depending on your mood, how full your stomach is, weather or not you have alcohol in your system, and even the weather itself can influence what you think about.

It's also relevant to consider the “color” of your thoughts, that is, the emotional background of the thought itself.

An angry thought that is focused on being productive is slightly different to a happy thought that is focused on being productive.

As you say, the mind is a suggestion box that is influenced by thousands of internal and external factors. The ability to take the suggestion box with a grain of salt and push on regardless can take you far in life.

Good video, good stuff!

The first time I had heard my thoughts do not define me my mind was blown away.
I know this fact for a year now but tend to forget that while in trouble

Funny I’ve practiced voluntary discomfort in uncomfortable social situations in the past simply because I wanted to see what made me so uncomfortable and if I could conquer it… never figured it out why I was uncomfortable but I’ve defiantly becomes more comfortable with my fear.

This is a great video. I do want to advise people to be cautious about ignoring too many of your body's suggestions - remember you aren't a robot and those suggestions are there for self preservation. It's about finding a balance.

Voluntary discomfort is a dangerous thing. I have a problem with procrastination, and doing voluntary discomfort was a good method at first, but I figured over time I was still procrastinating, but effectively making myself suffer in order to feel better about it. Make sure the discomfort is effectively a good thing. Fasting, as suggested in this video, is a really slippery slope. It may lead to you thinking that it's ok to not do X because in exchange you won't eat.

The video was mind blowing for me because I always perceived my thoughts as truth and that led me to living through my life as a passive lazy individual, almost a slave to my mind . I don't know how commuting to push through my thoughts will affect my life but I'll do it . It's time to take action indeed . Thank you very much, sir .

this is why i am depressed- i cant relate to others anymore because ive conditioned my mind through years of "suck it up", JUST DO IT, ignoring my thoughts. now my mind is blank all the time and I never feel anything. all because my mind would remind me that it would rather be doing something else while at the gym, at work, at school, but i did it all anyways. now i dont want to accomplish anything in life anymore- i have no goals, plans or passions. so in a way it worked.
