Great advice! The “finish your songs” tip is so important. It’s easy to start lots of songs but hard to improve if you don’t actually finish and share anything.

Your point about bouncing out a track, listening on headphones, and writing down things to change - I’ve done that and found it very helpful 😁

Thanks! When I first started music i watched like 5 hours of tutorials for every hour i produced but I've realized that's not the way to go.

I would emphasise music theory and music progression vs learning all the technical stuff on how to mix and master and buid studios and all that shit... ? playing instruments and all that... that come naturla to me but what doesnt come natural, is thinking about the music. like what chord, progression... structure etc. I have better understandings and experience with the tehcnicals of music and audio vs knowing HOW to write music. so now Im learning more on that end of things... not sure what would be better to learn first, but I do think both are important.

:) great tips mate! I need to improve all of these things.

Don't agree about music styles. Electronic music, especially today is about innovation and diversity. You can't develop strong producer skills if you stuck in one genre. The sound signature is important. For example, Au5 works in many genres, but he has very recognizable sound signature.

I agree that sometimes transitions between genres that ar very far away from each other and have different vibes and comunities can be "dangerous".

Even in Pop music, which much more conservative then electronic music, artists try to be diverse. If artist don't evolve, he is not interesting.

My takes on some of the questions, since we're all different :)
-Starting my own label to keep all rights. Quite some work, but I have very intricate future plans & strategies.
-Styles: Being versatile. My strategy is cross-polination between styles, skills & flavors + Intricate future plans.
-Not getting stuck as a producer: Discipline, strategies, analysis & an open mind: Never a status quo.
-I worked hard for weeks on my music and hardly advanced, in Feb last year. I got quite sick of producing eventually, as it turned into a grindy, seemlingly endless, inhuman uphill-struggle. Everything sounded weak, there was no up or down, techniques were inadequate etc. I said to myself "Nope, I'm doing something wrong, this doesn't lead me anywhere. I need new perspectives - and will return once I'm prepared." And so I did.
That's when I started to advance for real: 1: Changing my approach to learning 2: Listen to & analyze music made by others on an even more scientific level than before (while forcing myself to ignore jelaousy & frustruation, because THAT is just a waste of time & effort!!) 3: Looking at my skills from many different angles & perspectives. 4: Upping my music-theory game and a lot lot lot of other small important details. Lots of tutorial vids, interviews, discovering new music, new artists. Absolutely hammering everything I could imagine and beyond that.

It was just as intense as you'd imagine!

But I'm happy to say: IT WORKED!!!

I exported my first fully arranged, mixed, mastered (Underground Techno) track "Raindance" from my DAW Bitwig early this morning after a torturous-mixing session!!

It'll hit my DJ-studio later today! It will be VERY interesting!!
It might need an adjustment or two -but who cares!! I went from a blank screen to an exported track in 4 days!! (That alone is something I almost can't believe!)

HUGE DAY... Just saying!!

The vast majority of people often get beat making mixed up with the role of producing. As a Record Producer, there's soo much more than just composing a beat when producing a finished product. You don't even necessarily have to know how to compose beats as there's plenty of Record Producer's out there such as P-Diddy or Chris-Lord-Alge that doesn't have anything to do with making beats. You're primary objective is to see whole entire production and recording process all the way down to the mix of the finished product if you're going to call yourself a Producer. Real Producer's physically collaborates with the Vocalist, Musican and Engineers in the studio to help get the best record as possible because just by making a beat and sending it off to some one calling it a day doesn't necessary make you a Producer. It just makes you a track maker aka Composer. Timbaland, Scott Storch, Pharrell Williams, Dr. DRE, Rodeny Jerkins, Teddy Reily, Bryan-Michael Cox are all what you call a *Record Producer / Songwriter's* because they are wearing two hats as the Composer that composes the music and Traditional Record Producer role like Quincy Jones when they are in the studio directing and overseeing, that controls the recording sessions etc. The produce the finished Master Recordings with vocals and everything before they hand it off to the A&R.

Zelda=❤️

I don’t play video games that much too. In the past I played a couple hours a day and the rest of my spare time on music. We also have a Switch but although it’s a great device I’m not playing that much. In fact, very rarely. But if I’m struggling with my projects I grab the Switch to play Breath of the Wild for a couple hours. Do you still own your Nintendo Switch, Jon? I remember we talked about in the comment section which Zelda game is better: Breath of the Wild or Ocarina of Time. It’s off topic what I’m saying right here but I was caught by your answer on the person who asked you about playing video games. Good luck with the new single and I hope it will reach a million Spotify plays soon for you. Also I will definitely check your new song out (on Apple Music if it’s available there) Have a great week and keep up doing these great video’s. Best, Emiel.
