Make sure you know what you’re practicing and playing!

Even if it’s just keeping a coherent idea of what it is you’re doing, or jamming over!

That said, do whatever keeps it fun and exciting for you as well! :)

15 mins a day is great. Just drill something and then go to sleep and The next day it’s like it becomes carved in your mind a little more. Gets easier out of no where

I just had a euphoric moment. It feels like a door in my brain was just unlocked.

Im glad he doesn’t out right tell self taught guitarists that we are doing it wrong or bad at playing, but rather there’s things we might not be doing the most efficient way. Shows he actually cares about helping us learn guitar rather than show how superior he is to all of us. Great job man!

I first picked up a guitar 15 years old but couldn't afford one. I used to borrow my friend's guitar for days, used to my church just to play guitar.
Finally bought an electric guitar at 22 years old. Now I'm 24 and I'm completely self taught

Coming from someone who is completely self-taught, it really is just about muscle memory and passion. If you just want to learn a couple songs to pickup chicks or something like that, then I'd say just take some lessons and set aside time to practice consistently until you get to where you want to be, but I digress. You can't expect to become a great guitarist if you are only trying to play perfect notes or sound like your favorite artist. You have to become one with the instrument, even if it's just for the duration of the session. Whether you play for 10 minutes or 2 hours, you have to completely set aside your ego and forget about trying to sound like anyone else besides you. Not the you that everyone else sees, but the real you. The inside you. The you that comes out when no one else is around. The key to becoming a great guitarist is basically being able to directly translate your thoughts and feelings into the instrument. You gotta let go and just flow. Unfortunately, it is hard to do that if you don't have enough memorization of the fretboard. Music theory is not necessary, but it can help. Just not without the soul. Without feeling it sounds like a robot wrote it. It is always good to learn more songs, and you can absolutely incorporate others' techniques into your own playing, but try phrasing it differently or putting your own spin on it. Who knows, you may invent a unique playing style or discover a brand new sound.

The first step can be taken as advice loosely. There's some guitarists out there with the most weird looking techniques but it works great for them.

Sometimes doing the most basic ascending and descending exercises on the same frets everyday can help build technique. That’s something I’ve figured out but I got a way to go!

You can always teach yourself how to play guitar, and you can get quite good that way as long as you are consistent with it. However, it’s always a good idea to eventually get a teacher or someone experienced in guitar to help you improve or fix some things
