My solution (which someone else found in the comments):
Press the cog wheel on your remote --> "all settings" at the bottom of the menu bar --> "general" (the onscreen cog) --> "system" --> "Additional settings" --> "Home Settings" --> untick "Home Auto Launch" (I unticked the others too)

For me, this opens my tv to my firestick homepage😁

the green tick has nothing to do with being default.. That's just showing you what input you are currently on...

Figured it out .. when you turn on tv.. settings top right> general>home settings> turn off auto home launch
- tv will now open up in hdmi 2 so I don’t need 2 controllers with fire stick remote

Thank you thank you thank you! Yesterday my partner inadvertently changed the input to Sumo Wrestling. I methodically spent 45 mins trying to get our cable feed back and I wasn’t successful until I watched your video and fixed it in 30 seconds. Many thanks!

My TV is a little different, but the “ plug icon” was the magic word. Thank you. I must remember to wear my glasses when using the remote.🤓

Thanks so much for posting this. We were Trying for ages to find the inputs, not knowing that that little button was the one to press. LG can be confusing!

Saved my day.
I was stuck in LG mode after setting up the TV and going nuts. But with your clear instruction I sorted it out straight away.
Input button as you say !
I really like LG stuff but the lack of clear manuals on line really doesn’t help. Lots of rubbish paper in the pack but very little is helpful. Be great if they could sort it out.
Thanks again.

I put this in a nested comment, copy/pasting at the top level for easier finding:
This didn't work for me on a C3, but I did find it: settings > general > system > additional settings > home settings > power on screen. Why is this so hard to find =[

Did not work for me either and I cannot find the settings menu mentioned above

Thanks for the video. Quick question, how do you change it to "home" as default? Mine is at HDMI 1 when I turn it on and I can't figure out how to set the default to "home". Please help!

Thank you for the tip. Do you happen to know how I can use my Smart TV to connect to My laptop with Bluetooth rather than displaying a duplicate of my screen on there

ive had my TV for a couple years and when I would turn it on, it would go to hdmi 1 (which is what I wanted) but since an update not too long ago, I get stuck on the web os screen every time i turn it on. The remote that came with my LG is total s%#t and the buttons are small and hard to navigate so I have to fiddle with it to get it back to hdmi 1. I wish I could just uninstall the web os/streaming stuff off this tv and be done with it...If i want to watch streaming on it, Ill hook my Roku up to it

I don’t have a smart remote to hover. When I try to click the green check button, it just goes directly to LG channels 🤷🏻‍♀️ I don’t want a default channel. I just want it to go directly to apps when I turn on my TV

Not working, I click on LG Channels for default but nothing happens, it keeps HDMI1 as default!

Doesn't work on mine. I want to get to the streaming service faster. It's tedious AF to get to it.

Tried this and it just defaults to webOS next time i switch on the TV. Retrograde step since webOS updated

I have an LG UHD 860R80. This method does NOT default it to an HDMI port. Whenever I turn the TV on I see HDMI4 listed on my home screen, but it does NOT default to HDMI4 (my firestick) when you turn on the TV. You still have to select it each time. I cannot get this figured out. ANYONE??? LOL.
