In this video, Dr. Berg talks about metformin and ketosis. Metformin is used for type 2 diabetes and PCOS. It doesn’t increase the insulin unlike other diabetic medications do and it is mainly focused on the insulin receptor. It allows the insulin to be more efficient and to work better in the body. But there is a black box warning which means this medication has serious side effects.

Metformin Side Effects: *Small but fatal lactic acidosis risk.

Lactic Acidosis Symptoms:
• Hypoxia
• Low pH – Blood
• Fatigue
• Electrical Problems – Heart
• Abdominal Pain
• Death

Metformin inhibits B1 transformation. For people who are diabetic and is taking metformin, severe lactic acidosis can be reversed by vitamin B1 (Thiamine) in just 24 hours.

My mother is on metformin and gliposide... she says metformin is making her sick daily ... I told her to stop it and take gliposide as needed which is no better. She’s very very thin... I will tell her this info. God bless you Dr. Berg.

I am against almost all medications.

Metformin is different because it can heal vs being a bandaid like most drugs are. It actually is a very safe drug. Seriouse side effects are very rare and common side effects are mild.

Metformin is prescribed off label for longevity, heart health, to improve endothelial function, balance the immune system in autoimmunity, prevent alzhiemers, improve sleep apnea, for PCOS, infertility and hair loss among many others. It also drastically shifts the microbiome to a healthier state.

I am no where close to being diabetic. I am not overweight at all. I take Metformin because it is the only drug that is able to significantly reduce brain lesions in MS. Fasting can do this as well but the problem is that those with MS have such sensitive systems, that the stress of fasting can cause a flare. A flare can cause permanent disability so it has to be avoided. Metformin might be able to reverse the disability. This is what those of us living with MS have been waiting for. It is not FDA approved for this purpose as trials are still in progress but we don't have time to wait!

Having lost 28 pounds at 48 myself, my mother wanted to try Dr. Berg's Keto/IF. My 89-year-old mother has been off Metformin for 30 days today!! Changing her diet with Keto/Intermittent, upped her potassium and added gallbladder support - her morning blood sugar is 120 - 130 WITHOUT metformin and it was 150's - 180s. She has completely eliminated all sugars. Dr. Berg FOR the WIN! People tell your friends, tell your family - This works!!! P.S my sister has lost 34 pounds!

I take one metformin every other day. Stopped them officially awhile ago but started on a low dose from the left overs. because I read there are actually other benefits. My ketone levels for the last 30 days are averaging 1.5 with a low of 0.8 and the highest being 3.0. So I can say at the dosage I take, it will not knock me out ketosis.

Good video. But I never really hear an answer to the main question. Does Metformin block Ketosis?

My doc placed me on Metformin ( 500 mg x 3 per day) for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and the first few weeks were horrid. Feeling gassy, runny stools and generally feeling unwell. In fairness, the doc did tell me about some of the potential side effects.

I also remember reading about the side effects in the package and recognize the ones mentioned in this vid.

Metformin did seem to decrease my weight a little, but nothing substantial. I wasn't feeling too well so had blood work done and my doc found that I had low B12. I soon learned that Metformin affects B12, so now I take a supplement and follow a Keto lifestyle alongside fasting.

Now I've learned more about metabolic syndrome /insulin resistance, things make a lot of sense. I'm no longer on Metformin and I'm trying to implement lifestyle changes instead.

So what is the answer to the question: Will Mefromin stop my ketosis. I am not sure the answer was given, unless the side effect of death is the answer. That will, somewhat effectively, kick you out of ketosis!

Great upload. As for me I noticed I was gaining weight don’t matter how clean I was eating when I was on diabetes 2 medicine. So I started Keto with Omad and I’m getting great results still checking my blood sugar every day and night just to make sure. 3 months in and I’m drug free and dropping weight gradually with light daily cardiovascular exercise 30-40 minutes walk and sometimes light jogging. I honestly wished I did my research last year I wasted a lot on money on medicine that don’t cure you in the long run. 👍🏼👊🏼👊🏼🇹🇹

Inositol can be used instead. It helps with glucose metabolism and can even help women with PCOS ovulate. It’s also good for mental health because it affects neurotransmitters
