I began taking metformin when I was 35 I am 80 now and still taking it. I take 2000 mgs daily and have no kidney damage, no low B-12 or any other side effect, except possibly in the last few years, constipation. On the other hand, that could also be just getting old. There is a reason for the old people and prune juice jokes. It's easy to fix with a stool softener or laxative as needed. I am also 5 years older than the next oldest member of my immediate family lived to be. I have no idea if metformin has anything to do with that. I still take it and see no reason to drug for me that allowed me to eat more of what I like with no problems. I still do pushups and other exercises and try to walk daily, although nowhere as far as is recommended. So far so good. My blood test results are always
Something else I do "wrong" and have since "Tab" came out in about 1950 is drink a diet soda or two almost every day. I like them and see no reason not to. If the artificial sweetener is going to kill me now 80 is a pretty good run, and right now I am doing

I loved your presentation, making complex Topics understandable. I also appreciate shorter videos like this. Thanks

Once I found out Attia was a fan of statins and other pharmaceuticals I stopped paying any attention to him.. it told me all I needed to know about his depth of knowledge and understanding.

❤love this example! About 20 years ago I refused metformin. I began not eating sugar and started eating whole foods. ❤ apparently that wasn’t enough because today I’ve gone keto for great results. I am reaching for longevity. ❤❤❤❤thank you again Doctor!!!

I took Metformin from 2016 to 2021 and it damaged my kdney that caused me skin rashes almost all over my body. It was killing me slowly. Then because of skin problems, doctor advised me to take statins which really I thought Im going to die soon. Ive did a Big U TURN. From Dr. Tan, I started listening about the low carbs diet which can reverse diabetes. Then start listening to different doctors. Finally on June 2022, I decided to stop these meds and do the LC, ketogenic and fasting. Its nearly 2 years now, thank God Im still alive. Not perfect LC or ketogenic but I reduced carbs, sugar, bread, pasta or any foods that contains sugars. Feel energetic and positive. Now, Im back again to low carb after holidays. So far I can even walk 2-3 hrs a day without getting hungry

Fantastic! Thank you for summarizing the reason that Attia stopped Metformin. I heard him talk about it but it sounded more complicated. Your explanation was perfect for me! 😎❤️

I have been on metformin for 10 years as a type 2 diabetic. As I have learned more about the metabolism, I have been reversing my diabetes. I'm still on medicine, but my A1c was 5.5. But metformin has made me B12 deficient. I am working hard with my diet so that I can eliminate metfomin. I believe it is slowly killing me because it has caused me to be anemic.

I have been on metformin Er for 7 years. I was getting diarrhea from it at the 2000 mg dose but since I have cut it back to 1500 mg a day that does not happen. I just went to my Dr. and all my bloodwork was good. I eat right watch my portions, exercise and take care of myself. I am 70 and walk an hour a day and when the weather is bad I walk on my treadmill, I am of normal weight and not obese. I have had high blood pressure since I was 20 years old and weighed 99 lbs. I had hyperthyroidism in my 30s and had to have RAI on my thyroid. So now I have to take Synthroid. Between my thyroid, menopause, I gained weight and was unable to lose any weight so my endocrinologist put me on metformin ER. I immediately lost 8 lbs by doing absolutely nothing. It helped control my appetite too. I wish I was one of those health food superstars that doesn’t let a single processed food molecule touch my lips and only the purest Alpine spring water fill my glass. I do watch my portions, watch my carbs and try to stay away from processed foods. My blood work came out normal no bad cholesterol or high triglycerides, my glucose levels are good too. I hardly ever get sick with anything so I feel fortunate.

Another great video. thank you. My doctor wanted me to take Metformin, but I decided to reduce my carb intake to less than 20 carbs per day.

The only real things I care about doing for health are 1) Eating healthy (which is a minefield of debate) 2) Lots of cardio (more low intensity but high included as well) 3) Strength training 4)7-8 hours sleep 5) Time restricted eating. Those are my 5 pillars I guess. And there are most certainly other things you can do but imo the science/doctors recommendations change (this vid is proof) too frequently.

I take metformin and I'm not diabetic nor pre-diabetic. Here's why. Before metformin, my fasting (morning) glucose stayed around 90. After metformin, my fasting glucose is around 84. Alzheimers disease is sometimes called Type 3 Diabetes. I don't want Alzheimers disease. The association between AD and prolonged high blood glucose is very strong.
Furthermore, do a little mental exercise: Search "metformin and X" where X is any ailment, disease, or condition you think of. The results are very positive for metformin.
Finally, Lactic Acidosis is a rare but well known danger for metformin. However, taking Vitamin B12 usually reduces or eliminates that danger. Obviously, I take B12. It has a fairly long half life in the body so I take it a couple of times a week.

My Father used to say over and over to me -…”remember if in doubt, the answer is NO”
As far as Mainstream medicine is concerned, it’s pretty good advice.

Dr. Ben Bikman also has a lot to say about NOT using Metformin and the issues and problems associated with using it.
