To look more authentic, miso soup is usually served in a wooden bowl

Just a tip to slowly heat up the kombu to a boil to maximize flavor. Not sure what's the specific science behind it but many Japanese chefs do it.

So growing up we ate miso-shiru almost all the time, we ate it on rice, plain or just as is. One thing we added that you didn't is called dashi. It's kinda like a fish powder. And we left in the nori (seaweed), that was the "candy" part. Sometimes we'd put in komoboko, which is pounded fish.

I respect the nail but depending on the type of paint it can chip into your food. Protect your food and your nails with the little finger gloves. 😎 Also thanks for the awesome recipe! I've been dying to eat something new at home.
