Director Juan Antonio Bayona follows up his critically-acclaimed feature debut The Orphanage with this drama set during the 2004 tsunami, and detailing one family's incredible fight for survival. Inspired by actual events, The Impossible opens on December 26th, as Henry (Ewan McGregor), his wife Maria (Naomi Watts), and their three sons lounge poolside following an eventful Christmas. But just as the family begins to forget their troubles and settle in for a relaxing tropical getaway, one of the worst natural disasters in modern history changes their lives in the blink of an eye. Meanwhile, as shock gives way to abject horror, the devoted parents fight to protect their children, encountering scenes heart-wrenching tragedy and experiencing acts of incredible compassion as the entire country of Thailand is engulfed in chaos. Tom Hollander and Geraldine Chaplin co-star.

The first time I saw Tom acting was in Spiderman and I thought he was good. Then I watched this movie and I realised he's incredible.

I remember watching this film in the cinema. It was incredible. I remember thinking, "he is a brilliant actor for his age" (I also thought this for the other young children who took part in it). When I heard that Tom was going to be playing Spider Man, I wondered, "where have I seen him before?". When I realised, I said to myself, "what a great choice".

This scene made me cry, I can just imagine what would it be like to loose a brother or sister at a young age. I lost my twin sister adison just from a miscarrage.

I cried so much... He did such a good job while acting. It's so horrible that so many kids have to go through this. This scene crushed my heart.

To just imagine what it was like when the tsunami happened in 2004 is so heartbreaking. I'm close to tears just seeing all those poor children without their parents. Such a tragic day for anyone who was affected.

This is what makes this film heartbreaking, we’re shown the hell this family is going through and the director is constantly reminding us with these wide up shots that so many more families are going through the exact same or worse. I’ve watched it thrice already and I’m always tearing up in these scenes.
