I found that personally i would drink a whole bottle of wine if i opened it or do a good few shots of bourbon so i just gave up. It took a while but finally going full on non alcohol was best for me. Some people can get away with just a glass of wine but i couldn't so it's best for me to stay off it. I have to say i do feel so much better being sober

I re-established my relationship with alcohol through a personal contract with myself: Friday and occasional Saturday only, and only 2 drinks. Caveat: special events.

The alcoholic drink with the lowest carb and the lowest sugar would be Vodka and cold Water with Ice and a little Lime or Lemon Juice.

Something to think about when considering alcohol in your diet is that a molecule of sugar and a molecule of alcohol are nearly identical and affect your metabolism virtually the same way.

while beer has hops in it which is an appetite stimulant and liquors do not, beer has a lot of carbs and liquors simply have more alcohol. the alcohol itself causes the liver to make more triglycerides, which is another problem for diabetics. so any type of alcoholic beverage is bad for you, especially if you have diabetes.

I stick to light beer, dry white wines, the occasional vodka. Happily, alcohol doesn’t call to me like sugary carbs do.

Explains why I always liked shorts; long before I would drink wine!

Please justify the statement that beer is high in carbohydrates and is 'liquid toast'. Yes, there are carb-heavy ingredients such as maltose in the wort, but these are converted to alcohol by yeast. So, in principle at least, Carbs = 0 when the wort has fermented out. It is true that commercial brewers often add maltodextrin to beers, which does add carbs, but homebrewing without additives should produce a low-GL product. There is some suggestion that beer might catalyse breakdown of carbs in accompanying food, but that shouldn't be an issue if you have a beer with a low-carb meal.

I'm probably missing something, but happy to be enlightened. Note, I'm referring to real ale in the British sense rather then chemical soups masquerading as beer, and I'm not referring to going out on a pub crawl, which brings its own issues.

Every time we eat or drink anything we are either feeding disease or fighting it. One thing we can all agree on is that Alcohol is a poison.

it drives me crazy that anyone can consider alcohol "low carb". Especially vodka or jin. It is spirit, bro! Pure fuel that can actually be used instead of gasoline to fuel cars!

If your goal is weight loss, it’s kind of a no-brainer that doesn’t need a lecture.
The simple answer Oxidative priority is a concept in nutrition that refers to the order in which different macronutrients (carbohydrates, fats, and proteins) are metabolized and used for energy by the body. It helps determine which macronutrients are prioritized for energy production and storage.

The typical oxidative priority order is:

1. Alcohol (ethanol): When alcohol is consumed, it is metabolized first because it cannot be stored in the body and is considered toxic.
2. Protein: If excess protein is consumed, it can be converted into glucose through a process called gluconeogenesis, making it the second priority for energy.
3. Carbohydrates: Carbohydrates are broken down into glucose and are used for immediate energy or stored as glycogen in the muscles and liver.
4. Fats: Dietary fats are typically stored as adipose tissue (body fat) and are the last priority for energy, as they are more efficiently stored.
So if you drink you never really get around to burn fat.

I suppose it depends on your reasons for being in a low carb lifestyle. If, as sugested in the video, it were for diabetes control, then many alcoholic drinks may not be a good idea. If it were for weight loss, then similarly, the calories may be best avoided. However, if you are close to your weight-loss goals, and have decent metabolic health, then carb-cycling becomes a valid option. And I thought it was common knowledge now that you are best off not drinking alcohol every single day of the week.

What about a low-carb beer? They’re only 2.6 carbs per bottle.

Isn't alcohol getting transformed into glucose in the body as well? Cheers

No alcohol. Sorry. Goes straight to the liver. Also messes with your inhibitions. Next thing you know, you'll be doing something wacko like eating cake. :🙂
