Nanoplastics in Bottled Water: A Major Risk To Human Health? | Ask Dr. David

Nanoplastics are so small they can pass through the tissues of the lungs or digestive system and into the circulation, dispersing synthetic chemicals throughout the body and into cells. New research demonstrates plastic bottled water sold in stores may contain up to 100 times more plastic particles in the water than previously thought. Let's talk about it!

Yikes - filtered tap water is the way to go! Better for the environment, too.

What about other plastics, such as plastic tubing and PVC piping commonly used in plumbing? Or plastic cups, forks, and spoons?

You have failed to understand the gravity of the situation by suggesting that home-based reverse osmosis is the solution. The irony of the situation is that the nanoplastics were shed from the plastic reverse osmosis membranes that were used to supposedly “purify” the bottled water in the first place. While it might be true that commercial RO systems could be worse than home based RO systems, we simply don’t know until the researchers focus on home based RO filter systems.
