I still think an awesome and helpful feature for a creator, show me a timeline of the exact spots /times in the video that the thumbs up or thumbs down button is pressed. This would reveal incredible insights.

0:26 “we’ve been working on satisfaction together for a few years now”

What about having a 1-10 rating pop up on a video that appears only after a viewer has watched it for a certain amount of time, that also ties in with the type of content. So for example, after a viewer has watched a video for over say 50% of its duration a question pops up...

(A video in the education category)
How would you rate the educational content of this video?
-Rate 1-10

(A video in the entertainment category)
Did you find this video entertaining?
-Rate 1-10

Just a thought from us. Thanks for the content and info!

A feature that will be helpful for creators is A/B testing for thumbnails. Have the option to upload 2 thumbnails and see which one performs the best based on the data.

I am plaesed for this video. I was getting extremely frustrated being told 1, 000 times in every one of my videos my channel was underrated. Also that I have the highest quality craft in ASMR, they do not understand why my channel was not growing. It did not make any sense how so many of my Royals (community) enjoy my work and still My channel was not picked up by the algorithm. My suggestion would be read the comments from the people that have watched the videos, look at the channel overall to get a feel if the channel's content is good enough. Please don't see this has a complain I am always positive person but It is getting very tiring.

Question, does commenting on a video add signals of satisfaction? Does the system understand positive and negative statements?

This is awesome, Todd and Eric. Thanks for sharing how you guys think about this! I think in general, any metrics you can expose to us around satisfaction would be helpful. Also, anything you can do to further help segment the metrics we already can see in terms of our "core" audience vs our "noncore" audience would be helpful - subscribers seems like a less and less useful distinction, since many subscribers may no longer watch the channel, and many nonsubscribers may be watching regularly. It's helpful to think in terms of what's resonating with people who watch videos on the channel regularly vs people who may be seeing the channel for the first time, or who only watch infrequently.

Thanks for the info guys! Are you tracking how many people turn off due to adverts? There seems to be a crazy amount of mid-roll ads on vids these days - watching a vid the other day it had 9 ad breaks! 11 if you include the two right at the start! My viewers are complaining about this and for now I'm disabling all mid-roll ads. Seems to vary by time of day too. Please can someone explain what's going on here? It's a terrible viewer experience.

Good topic today. Here are my feedback.
1. Please DON"T recommend again videos that I already fully watched.
2. I may watch a video until let say 80% of it (before the closing remark) for example. Please don't recommend the video again!

I appreciate these kinds of videos. Thank you! Specifically the ways that I can take action to improve. Satisfaction is hard to understand, and this brought some more clarity. I would love a part 2

I’d love if I could see, as a creator only, the actual time stamp in a video that a comment was posted. Ergo are my viewers pausing and commenting at 30 seconds into a video, or in the last 16 seconds. I’d be able to see at what point they feel moved to comment and also get a better judge of the value of comments depending on how much of my content a viewer has watched!

I bet it is tricky since lots of questions do turn people off for answering a question every video. I am glad y'all are using a combination of factors.

One question that's been really on my mind lately, is how some creators do things like "SMASH THE LIKE BUTTON!" and "If this video gets 50, 000 likes, I'll do another one, " or the most obnoxious one of all, is putting the title or thumbnail as "This video has views." These are all examples of "gaming" the system, since these have nothing to do with the content, yet it seems that creators who do this kind of stuff frequently get recommended more than creators who don't. So just wondering if you guys are doing anything about this, or if that's just part of the game. Thanks.

I think the quality of the video should be easily judged by the Comments section. If you look at all the comments of this particular video, you'll notice a lot of long and meaningful comments, that show a real engagement, real interest with the above video. This video made people think and express their thoughts, which resulted in the actual discussion about that particular subject that was presented in that particular video. This discussion is visible to anyone. Even when I see the small number, but meaningful and involved Comments - it carries much higher satisfaction weight than any video with the thousands of "Thanks!" or "It was great!". To me, any video that can create this kind of discussion, as this video does - should carry the highest index of "usefulness" as well as "satisfaction".

Thank you. Recently I got a thumbs down on a video the moment the video went up. I thought it hugely unfair for someone to decide they don't like it before even watching it. It has been suggested to me that this could be a bot and that other creators were experiencing the same, with some receiving thumbs downs without a single view being had of their video. Can YouTube work out a way to prevent this from happening? If YouTube uses these thumbs up and down as indicators that someone liked a video, surely they could only be valid if at least a part of the video was watched?!!! Otherwise, this is a handy tool for some hackers to derail upcoming channels. (So sad that there are such people in this world)
