This is probably the most beautiful song in Ultrakill. Not that it’s elegant, or graceful, or anything of the sort. It’s beautiful because of the truly raw tragedy it conveys.

You blaze through the first few layers, not worrying about what’s in your path. The music is intense and fast paced, but the overall tone is light. Limbo, Lust, Gluttony, all meaningless before you. There is not a single flesh or metal being that stands a chance before your bloodlust. But as you make your way through Greed, and Wrath… it begins to set in. There are only so many beings in hell.

Then, as you land in the palace of Gabriel, it finally sets in. You are not the hero of this story. You aren’t even the protagonist of the story. Hell, there’s barely even a story left to tell you. Hell has run it’s course, and you’re here to clean up the scraps.

The game itself begs you to Cry for the Weeper. Cry for those unlucky enough to cross your path, cry for those who wanted no part in your bloodlust. And yet, you kill. The layers of his palace fall, and your indiscriminate destruction continues. Not a single tear shed. Not a single soul that can stand in your path.

Eventually, there will only be you. And then, there won’t even be that.

I remember someone saying in this song it sounds like the guitar is crying, and I couldn't agree more.

I love how you beat gabriel once and he fucking pisses and shits himself, but you beat him twice and you somehow knock some sense into an overzealotous angel of all beings

"this heresy act is pretty cool already but it's pretty tame for the rest of the game"

"If we weren't in Hell before, we are now."

- Me after entering 6-1 for the first time

I’m convinced this isn’t the theme for the level, but rather V1’s boss theme

one time my mom bought this weird-ass candle and lit it in the living room, and my room was the only one untainted, because I keep the door closed, and everytime I left my room the house smelled exactly like how the beginning of this song sounds

This track really hits different because it evokes one of Ultrakill's biggest themes - tragedy. The tragedies of Minos, of Sisyphus (?), of the Ferryman and of all the denizens of Hell, plus the impending tragedy of Gabriel once God's light leaves his body, and perhaps most of all...V1's own impending tragedy.

For indeed, this track reminds you that soon you'll fight all the way through to the bottom of Hell, through the last remaining sources of blood. Once that's done...it's over. All you've managed to do is stave off your impending shutdown from lack of fuel, and eventually once you've reached Lucifer's fetid corpse, once you've danced with Gabriel one final time, you'll power down for good. Just a hunk of silicon and steel in the cooling remains of Hell, while Heaven disintegrates and eventually all of Creation comes undone for good because of your quest.

Your story ends as a lifeless machine in a universe whose death knell came because you wanted to stave off your own end, and now you'll be a monument to man's mistakes...forever.

I remember reading somewhere that the second part of the ARG had been completed and found out that the reason the hell expedition was abandoned was because they found out hell was corrupting their machinery and equipment for entertainment. This actually explains why the machines and demons fight you when they should be fighting each other as well, but I think it also works to explain the difficulty of each layer. The prelude and first layers are more or less just hell testing V1 out to see what they got, but by the time the 3rd layer is wiped out hell starts to realize the threat V1 poses. The stalkers are repurposed to try and combat V1 directly, and hell puts more of an effort into trying to stop you, and that’s also what this song feels like to me. It’s hell genuinely understanding it’s fighting, and losing, a war for it’s own survival.

That intro honestly caught me off guard for this song. It sounds like the game telling you that there’s no more going back, you’ve started this rampage, you’re going to damn well end it
